Close to 250 peo- ple watched as the students explained what they had learned in the three month Values, Influences and Peers (VIP course held this past spring. "We have been taking the VIP program to help us cope with the pressures of grow- ing up," explained Billy Irwin, of Victoria Public School. "Peer pressure is when our peerr (the he people around you) pressure things that you really don't want to do. You could easily get coaxed or lured to steal, take drugs or other hazardous things, because of your peers." I essure because .You give in to peer p sometimes people tease, dare, threaten or bribe you to do things that aren't right," he said. Billy told the assembly that his class learned how easy it was to get hooked on stealing. "First you might steal something small, like a chocolate bar, and then you know that you can get away with it, so you steal something bigger." They stated the importance of making students aware of the need to work together to make our community safe, en- joyable and a fun place to work and play. • • Along with Billy Irwin, Rhonda Horton and Vicki Glousher, from Victoria and Becky Harrison from Robertson spoke about how much they learned from Con- stable Jay Poulter and other people in the community concerning stealing, drugs and alcohol, peer pressure and youth and the Iaw. Students of both schools also put on short plays depicting situations in which they might find themselves. To cap off the evening, the students were presented diplomas from their teachers Dave Brereton of Victoria and John Scratch, of Robertson.
