Named for Reg M. Bridle, a former water superintendent with the PUC and a faithful employee for 45 years bet- ween 1928 and 1973, the new pumping sta- tion and reservoir is phase one of the com- mission's water expansion project. The total cost of this facility is approx- imately $1.2 million, which is about 46 per cent of the $2.6 million total project coat. The Ministry of the Environment is pro- viding approximately 52 per cent of the funding and the balance will be funded by the Goderich Public Utilities Commission. PUC Commissioner Herb Murphy in- troduced Steve Burns, engineer with B.M. Ross and Associates, who described the project to expand and improve the town's water system. In addition to the reservoir and pumping station which is the expan- sion of the storage facility, there will be major expenditures on trunk watermains and a thorough modernization and expan- sion of the water treatment plant located at St. Chrisopher's Beach, phase two of the project. The facilities are all required to permit the town of Goderich to grow and provide a secure supply of good quality water under all conditions, said Burns. "In our opinion, the facilities that have been constructed to date and the remaining facilities that will be added over the next year or so, repre- sent a very major improvement to the system. They will serve and benefit the Town of Goderich for many years into the future," he said. The new facility is a ground level, treated water reservoir and booster pump- ing station. The reservoir is approximate- ly 32 metres by 32 metres by 5.4 metres deep with about half of its working depth below the original ground level. It wil hold a working volume of approximately 1,100,000 Imperial gallons of water. Water will enter the reservoir from the distribution system during periods of low demand, enerallintohe system urinthe hduring t, and be pumped back um in station GODERICH SIGNAL -STAR, WEI)NESDAY, JUNK: 25, 1986- PAGE J Best Interest 1014w Guaranteed Investment Certificates 'Subject to change Gaiselr-Kneale IOP ssurancepokers Inc.
