Hazardous
Sandwich
makers
are recalled
Owners of Toastess Waffler/Grill/Sand-
wich Maker, Model 575 should stop using
them immediately because of a potential
shock hazard. The units concerned are
stamped on the underside - Model 575, 120V,
1000W, Toastess Inc. No other models are
affeeted.
Investigation has revealed that some
units have an internal wire that may contact
the heating surface, resulting in melting of
the wire insulation and energizing the
enclosure with 120 volts. In consultation
with CSA, Toastess Inc. is implementing a
voluntary recall of all 24,100 units produced
since July, 1985. The will inspect the units in
question and modify or replace, as may be
required.
Units should be carefully packaged and
returned by PARCEL POST to: Toastess
Inc., 815 Tecumseh, Pointe Claire, Quebec,
H9R 4B1.
Please return the appliance with one set of
grill plates installed; keep the cord and the
other set of grill plates. Parcel post costs
will be refunded by the manufacturer.
Modified and new units will be identified
with the letter "A" printed after the model
number on the carton, and on the underside
of the product. (575A)

MacKay Choristers win
first place in Senior
Citizen's Choir Festival
On June 4, the MacKay Choristers travell-
ed to Kitchener to compete in the seventh
annual Senior Citizens' Choir Festival,
Which took place in the grand ballroom of
Bingeman Park Lodge. Choirfest'86 was
part of the 1986'Ontario Senior Games.
The MacKay Choristers participated in
the Parts Choir Competition and there were
six choirs entered in this event. The other
five choirs were from 'Kitchener,
Mississauga, Toronto, 'Guelph and Niagara
Falls.
•Goderich was the only small community
competing. This fact did not overly disturb
the choir for it knew that its talented direc-
tor, Irla Stewart, had carefully, chosen a
repertoire to suit the age group and its voice
range. She had spent several weeks careful-
ly rehearsing and encouraging the
members to sing not only with their voices
but with hearts and minds as well.
Therefore, it was with pride in her leader-
ship and in its 6wn efforts that the
Choristers accepted the plaque indicating
that they had won theacompetition with a
remarkable mark of 90. In addition to the
plaque, the choir will receive a cheque for
$200.
Kitchener. received a mark of 88 in captur-
ing second place, while Niagara Falls and
Toronto placed third and fourth with marks
.'of 87 and 86.
It is interesting to note that the MacKay
Choristers placed third in 1985 behind
Niagara Falls and Mississauga. Their im-
provement is a credit to the industry and pa-
tience of Irla Stewart and the faithfulness of
accompanist, Joan Henwood.
In his critique of the Choristers the ad-
judicator, Harvey Perrin, said, "The ex-
cellence of this group was most obvious -
good tone - good rhythm fine words - most
vowel sounds were sustained nicely. Pitch
was generally secure and indeed this group
showed us all how Seniors should sing."
Perrin humorously remarked, "I love your
'Hot Pink' dresses, boleros and men's
maroon ties to match."
The MacKay Choristers were proud to be
worthy ambassadors fbr Goderich at
Choirfest '86.
