ab i ut closing of K Centre
Dear Editor,
As parents of pre-school age children, we
are deeply concerned with the closing of the
K -Day Care Centre on July 31.
Through the very commendable efforts of
Cindy Austin and Cathy DeJong, the
daycare centre was opened on May 21, 1985.
At the present time there are 80 children
registered at the centre.
The feeling of the parents is that there is a
definite need for a quality affordable
daycare facility. This type of centre pro-
vides licensed staff in an atmosphere con-
ducive to the educational and social needs of
children in our county.
The day care is open to all parents requir-
ing a variety of childcare needs.
The Goderich town council was approach-
ed on June 9, to ask for assistance in pro-
viding on-going daycare through a
 TTERS
municipally funded centre. Wingham and
Vanastra presently have day care centres
funded 50 per cent federal, 30 per cent pro-
vincial and 20 per cent. municipal.
It is our belief that a growing community
such as ours should also offer this same ser-
vice which is readily available in neighbor-
ing areas.
Respectfully yours,
Parents for Daycare

Day care is absolute necessity
Dear editor,
I am writing this letter to enlighten the
citizens of Goderich and make them aware
of the absolute necessity of maintaining the
K Day Care Centre in our town.
This facility has been in operation since
May of 1985, under the direction of .Cindy
Austin and Cathy DeJong.
As a result of their eviction notice by the
Kinsnien, Goderich is in great danger of los-
ing this excellent facility.
Goderich is growing and the number of
families with two working parents is in-
creasing. This reinforces the need to con-
tinue this day care centre in our town.
The K pay Care provides excellent super-
vision and flexible hours to accommodate
working parents, and families have come to
rely on these services.
At Monday's town council meeting a mo-
tion was passed to have a committee review
the situation. As a working another, I would
Strongly urge this committee to address the
issue with every consideration, as it con-
cerns not only my child but all others atten-
ding the centre at this time.
Let's keep day ere accessible to the
children of our community!!
Sincerely,
Joy Hoffmeyer
Affluent people have
no idea about hardship
Dear Editor,
This letter is in response to the letters
critical of Jennifer Gowanlock s appeal for
financial assistance.
The Canadian government provides no
funding for students studying overseas. The
English government does not allow
foreigners to obtain employment.
Anyone who does not know Jen would not
realize the hard workshe has done to obtain
her goals. '
There are not too many students who work
two or more jobs at a time ' and deny
themselves the pleasures most kids think
are their rights.
Jennifer exhausted every avenue
available to Canadian students and en=
countered many obstacles and rejections. It
is to her credit that she has had the gump-
tion to follow her dreams.
The opportunity to study at RADA is hard-
ly comparable to the offerings of Canadian
universities.. Anyone who has cultural .,
values should realize this fact. Wouldn't it
be nice if there was a Canadian with the
same credentials as the big name theatre
directors who have to be imported from
other countries?
It is interesting to note that E. Hotchkiss
feels if Jennifer was handicapped or disabl-
ed she deserves an apology. Heaven forbid
that a bright, talented person should have
the desire to succeed.
The affluent people in our society have no
idea of the hardship, humiliation and rejec-
tion the rest us live with. All their well-
meaning advice noes not change the reality
of what really happens to people in the lower
economic class of society.
Until the people who experience the
frustration of dealing with the "legal chan-
nels" have the nerve, to let the rest of o
know what really does happen to the , we
can expect the kind ofcriticism that has
been levelled at Jen.
It is to her credit that she has kept .her
head up in spite of the adversity and
criticism she has endured.
