Orioles romp to 9-0 victory win over Juniors
This week's action began with Greg Gor-
don leading the Orioles to a 9-0 victory with
the pitching shutout and going two for
three at bat, producing 3 RBIs. The Orioles
pounded the Juniors with a 14 hit attack
with every Oriole getting at least one hit.
Gordon struck out eight to gain his shutout.
The next game was close pitting
Hayter's against French. Hayter's struck
early in the first and that proved to be the
winning run as Hayter's won 3-0. Dave
Scholl pitched his second shutout of the
year giving up only two hits. French pit-
cher Don Bogie was almost as good, giving
up only five hits.
Last Tuesday Sherwood came from
behind to defeat Denomme's 4-1. Pitcher
Sy Langlois gave up four hits and Ron Cor-
riveau blasted an inside -the -park home
run to lead Sherwood to victory.
Denomme's had taken a 1-0 lead when Jim
Bell doubled and then Garry Muxlow
doubled. But in the next inning Sherwood
struck for four; Langlois singled and then
was driven in by Al Sygrove. With two men
on base Corriveau then hammered a pitch ,
to left -centre to get the home run.
On Wednesday Hayter's defeated
Kirkey's 3-1 and Goderich Tire destroyed
the Juniors 10-1. Phil Petrie earned his
first win of the year as he held the Kirkey

scored their lead -Off man Dave Scholl in
the first inningrwhen Bill Peters singled
him in. In the second inning Myles Mur-

sacrifice fly. 1
Harold Peet held the Juniors to four hits
and went 3-4 with two RBI's to lead
Goderich Tire to a convincing 10-1 win. The
Juniors only run came as Grant Langlois
reached. base on an error and then Jay
Williamson hit a long fly to right field to br-
ing him in.
On Thursday Sherwood suffered their se- —
cond defeat in six outings as French won a
close 2-1 decision. It was a Pitcher's duel
as Don Bogie of French gave up five hits
and struck out eight for the win and John
Peet Pitched well too, giving up three hits
and striking out seven. Sherwood scored
first when ex -French player Pete Bakker
singled and scored on a passed ball. But
French got that back as Jim Martin scored
an unearned run. Frenchwon the game
when Del Mitchelmore led off the sixth
with a double and was brought in by a
Brian McKenzie fly ball.
On Sunday Kirkey's battled Goderich
Tire to a 4-4 tie. Both teams had nine hits
and Goderich Tire Pitcher John Bogie got
the edge in strike outs with nine. Kirkey's,
had built up a 3-0 lead on two runs by Doc
Miller and one by Jim Keller. Goderich
Tire fought back when Dan Durst singled,
was driven in by Ken Linner and then with
two men on base Harold Peet hit the se -
cond inside -the -park home run of the year.
But they could not hold on to the lead as

field fence to tie the game.
In the second game Denomme's built a
five run lead in the first and held on to beat

Huff and KanearHe first flight winners at Maitland
On Ladies Night May 13th, 19 braved the
weather. The winners in the first flight
were Marie Huff and Verna Kane, with Ar-
dith Brissette taking fewest number of
putts. Second flight had Jean Bell and
Marg Evans conning out on top, and Jean
Knight sinking the putts. Third flight win-
ners were Pat Tyndall, Lois McGill and
Joyce Shack and Auleen Curry putts.
Ladies were rained out the following
week, as were the men on the 19th, but on
Thursday the 22nd, 24 men played with Eb
Ross having a low net of 31 and Al Mac-
Donald and Q. Egener tied for low gross
with 38's.
Now we have a conundrum? On May 26,
48 men took to the fairways in sunny
weather. Issy Bedard won with a net 29
and Al MacDonald 2nd with net 30.
However, Tony Bedard turned in a gross
score of 36 and two aforementioned gents
both heat him on gross with a 33 and 35
respectively. Apparently the net scores
were the prizewinners, but Issy and Al felt
that they had to make it known (and Bob
Shrier agreed), that they had actually
beaten Tony on gross scores. Have you got
that? Good Other winners that night were
Jack , Pould, Dick McLean, Jack Hoff-
,,
meyer, Bob McDougall, Q. Egener, Clive
Caswell and Bill Hanly.
May 27th saw the ladies out in force and
1st flight winner was Maxine Martin with a
gross of 41. Marie Huffed and puffed and
popped in the putts. Second flight - Bess
Smith, Jean Knight, Bev Jeffrey, Jean
Bell, and putts Joan McDougall. Third
Flight, Jean Hanly, Bertha McGee, Pat
Tyndall, 'Chris Hoffineyer, and putts
Paulie McKellar.
This is Maitland's 65th Anniversary and
on May 21st the Board of Directors hosted
a dinner honoring some of our Senior
members. Eighteen played in the schedul-
ed 2 -ball, but about 40 turned out for the
refreshments after. Pictures dating from
the 1920s through the war years and up to
the presept were pdssed around as old
friends•dwere •recognized. A number of
these were given by Miss Mary Buchanan,
sister of the late George Buchanan, who
used to prowl the course with shutter
elicking.
A toast to the Maitland Country Club was
made by long-time member Martina
Schneiker, and replied to by another
golden girl, Auleen Curry.

half a point. The winners finished with 122
points.

Squirt boys

with late rally
The Goderich Hi -Way Squirt Boy's •
fastball team scored three runs in the bot-
tom of the seventh inning to post a come -
from -behind victory in action on Friday.
The win was the second in a row for the
squad. Last week, they romped past
Lucknow 9-3 to open the season.
Scott Matheson led off the bottom of the
seventh with a double. After Bill Ingham
grounded out to second base, Mark
Phillips tripled to bring Matheson in.
Jason Hayter's clutch single tied the
score 4-4.
Hayter stole second and third and then
trotted home on a wild, pitch to give the
Squirts the victory.
The team got strong pitching from Sean
Pellow and Bill Ingham who combined to
limit Chepstow batters to four hits.
The team's next game is Friday night at .
the GDCd diamond.
