SPORTS SHORTS
The Thornbury Yacht Club will host the
first annual Georgian Bay International
Challenge Cup from Saturday July 26 to
Monday August 4.
Billed as the "ultimate test of an off-
shore racing yacht", the event is designed
to entice sailors who will just be finishing
the Bayview Mackinac Race into Georgian
Bay for a further test of their ability.
Three separate race of 71, 98 and 205
nautical miles will be run during the week
Organizers anticipate between 50 and
100 competitors in this year's race and
hope, within the next five years, to be
hosting 300 entries.
Along with promoting the sport of yacht
racing in the Georgian Bay area it is ex-
pected that the influx of sailors and
onlookers will boost the Georgian Triangle
tourist business.
Anyone interested either in participating
in, or watching the event can get further
