World renowned Canadian- children's author visits with St. Marys students BY PAUL H3RTMAN Lyn Cook, a world renowned children's author, visited St. Mary's Separate School on Wednesday, May 14, to the delight of the school's 220 students. St Mary's was the last stop on a tour of six schools in the area for Miss • Cook who. travels Ontario under the authority of the Canadian Writer's Union. By the end of her current excursion, she will have lectured over 10,000 students. Miss Cook (she uses her maiden name because she wrote her first best seller under that appellation) is the author of some 15 books, both fiction and nonfiction. Her forte however, is children's literature and her works in this genre have earned her wide acclaim. Her biography appears in"The Dictionary of International Biography" and in "The American Who's Who of Women". She is probably least ,recognized here in Canada, a country with few well-known authors and even fewer children's authors. Miss Cook was born in Weston, Ontario, on May 4, 1918. She received her Honors Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Toronto in 1940 and married Robb Wad- dell eight years later. She recalls that she always wanted to be a story -teller.
