will cause chaos in health
Dear Editor,
The Minister of Health off this province
wants to deregulate Naturopathy. The
Naturopaths of course are "miffed" by this
decision as it downgrades the profession of
Naturopathy, the practice of true, natural,
preventive medecine.
Chaos wiil certainly result as quacks with
limited education and knowledge will en-
danger the health of the public. The pro-
. vines with no regulation of Naturopathy
are currently having severe problems with
quacks and others taking advantage of tphe
public.
In the next breath, the Minister declares
LETTERS
that additions to the ranks of regulated pro-
fessions were made in order to protect the
public interest. Why the apparent contradic-
tion? One would think that the protection of
public interest would also include allowing
Naturopathy to stay regulated as a
profession.
Yours sincerely,
F. Brethour, M. Sc.
In the absence of the wagon
Dear editor,
Maybe I am off by a month or two,
however, it was roughly a year ago that the
mighty issue of the hot dog 'wagon came to
priority and prominence on our local council
member's agenda, in the year of our Lord,
1985.
In perspective and reflectiveness, what
did we (as a town) lose or gain? Granted,
The Square, or Octagon as I prefer to call it,
might be a trifle cleaner however, one would
never know since our beloved
streetsweepers are up at 6 a.m. and no self-
respecting cat, is up, let. alone trolloping
around. How ironic, since we are encourag-
ing tourists from every direction to visit our
fairest of small towns yet on Highway 21
there is a trail of hamburger containers as
distinctive as ET wearing flourescent
gumboots.

social and environmental initiatives:
-A commitment, to spend $850 million for a
major, multi-year capital program which
.will provide funding for additional hospital
beds and pressing improvements to existing
hospital and cancer treatment facilities.
-A commitment, to develop a comprehen-
sive plan for child care services and a
recognition of child care as a "basic public
service". The budget adds $6 million, for
capital expansion and other pressing pro-
blems, to the $26 million increase for child
care initiatives already announced for this
year.
-A $25 million increase in shelter subsidies
to social assistance recipients, some of
whom "need to use their food money to pay
rent". About 50,000 families will benefit
from this increased support.
-A strengthening of community support
services to help people lead more indepen-
dent lives, including funds for senior
citizens, the disabled and the developmen-
tally handicapped.
-A proposal to extend the range of dental
services available to children. Special fun=
ding will be available to local health units to
provide necessary treatment to school -aged
