Jeff Surridge, supervisor of the Canada
Employment Centre for students in
Goderich and Exeter, announced recently
that three Student Placement"Officers have
been hired.
Denise Connelly and Faye Carnochan are
working in the Goderich office while Sandra
Datars is handling Exeter activities.
Denise Connelly is from the Goderich area
and studies biology ,it the University of
Western Ontario.
• This summer, she will be assisting
students and employers in the Goderich
area. Students eager to find jobs can gain
useful information by visiting Denise at the
office located at 35 East St. in Goderich.
Faye Carnochan, a physical education
student at McMaster University, is from the
Seaforth area.
She will be visiting Clinton and Seaforth
each week. Faye's task will be to make the
student office services more accessible to
students and employers from these towns.
Sandra Datars is a psychology student at
Huron College in London. She is from the
Dashwood area and is working in the Exeter
office.
Sandra is responsible for helping students
and employers from the Exeter area meet
their summer employment needs.
The employment situation in Huron Coun-
ty appears to be quite good for students this
summer. Many students are working in
career -related summer jobs as a result of
the Federal Governments' Challenge '86
program.
Other students will find employment in
jobs that are being created by the Provin-
cial Government's Ontario Youth Employ-
ment Program. This incentive program of-
, fers a wage subsidy for employers enabling
them to hire young people.
The summer job market is very , com-
petitive. Organization, initiative and
perserverance•
are the are the keys to success.
The student's first stop should be the stu-
dent office. There, he or she can gain job
search hints and information on the labour
market, government programs and employ-
ment available.
Opportunities for students exist in
agriculture, large industries, small
businesses, non-profit organizations, levels
of government and private homes.
Not everyone can have an ideal summer
job, but if students will consider all types of
employment, they will have a job this
summer.
Employers shOuld also take advantage of
the Canada ' Erlltploylnient Centre • for
Students: It, is. -a fait and effective •contact
for farmers, businesses and homeowners.
