Although the workshop took the place of the regular April meeting, Nancy Kale, Research "Co-ordinator, explained how the Research Committee operates. There are no paid searches being done at the present time as the Branch had been inundated with queries. Letters are, however, read at two meetings and the following queries have been received at the present time: Foster (Seaforth); Main (Goderich); Aikenhead (Brucefield( ;•Brooks (Morris Twp.) ; Drury (Goderich); Nott/Brown (Goderich); Belanger/Denomme(Hay Twp.) ; McGeorge (Ethel) ; Parker (Morris Twp.) ; Warner (Hullett Twp.); and Fraser (Goderich). Any one having any informa- tion on the above families is asked to contact Nancy at 345-2908. Lobb then began the workshop by explain- ing that the very first thing you must do is to write down all the information that you know - names, dates, etc. Then you must talk to all the relatives that you have on your list. Reinember that you need full names, full dates and places where events occurred. Remember also to note where your informa- tion was received from so that you don't cover the same source again. The first thing to look for are bir- ths, marriages and deaths and these are ob- tained from the Registrar General's office in Toronto. The census is also another valuable tool. The Latter Day Saints is a Wonderful place to locate information. You need to make ,an appointment to :visit' an LDS Stake Library (the closest being London) to check names on the International Genealogical In- dex (IGI). This is an index of all names recorded by the Mormons world-wide. If you find a name in a location that you feel may be one of your ancestors, you may order the film -from Salt Lake City, Utah and when it arrives you have two weeks in which to view the film at the Stake Library. Again, an ap- pointment is required. LDS records and the IGI are always being updated so if at first you don't find anything, please check again in a few years.
