CWL marks 65th anniversary
St. Peter's Catholic Women's League
celebrated their 65th Anniversary on Fri-
day, April 25.
The Anniversary Celebration began with
a Mass of Thanksgiving followed by dinner
and presentation of service pins by Helene
Regier, Diocesan Past President and Jane
Kerr, St. Peter's President.
Elaine Leddy, Mary MacLaren and Alice
Smith received 50 year pins for 50 plus con-
tinuous years of service to the C.W.L. Fifty
one ladies were given service pins for 25 and
more years of continuous service.
The guest speaker, Muriel Murphy, spoke
of the great contribution of these ladies and
encouraged the C.W.L. now to be an active
group, always reaching for the very best
they can do in their parish and community.
An enjoyable evening was brought to a
close with a skit entitled, The League- As It
Was, The Present, The Possible Future.
Edtication system values an, not God.
A promotion banquet was held at the Clin-
ton and District Christian School on Friday,
Apr. 18.
After a meal prepared and served by the
"Willing Workers", the gue,,sts were enter-
tained by the Grade 7 Folk Group consisting
of Karen Bylsma, Sara De Jong, Beatrice
De Vries', Patti Slotegraaf and Dawn Ten
Pas.
Dr. Henry Veenstra, a Doctor, of
Psychology working with high school
students for the Board of Education in Grey
County, was the guest speaker.
He presented two questions in regards to
educating God's children today,
1. Do we; as a Christian School Society, have
an educational creed on how values are to be
taught in our Christian School?
2. Does our school provide the means to give
direction and teach our children self-
confidence?
Dr. Veenstra said according to the
teachers' guide, "Values, Influences and
Peers"-, the values being taught to the
children today are very "I" centred. The
basis is that- if it feels right to me and I can
justify it to myself, then it must be right and

okay to do.
He also said the education system today
' glorifies man and not God,, even though
God's Word has very pertinent information
to give about values, decision-making and
respect for authority. Christian education
today has to provide clear guidelines in all
aspects of our lives because life is sacred
and must be valued.
Dr. Veenstra said students who have pro-
blems with math, reading and writing have
very limited self-confidence because of the
emphasis that is placed on these subjects.
We have to recognize the wide range of
skills of our children and build up their self-
confidence accordingly.
We must broaden our horizons when train-
ing our teachers and keep them up-to-date in
all areas of education so that they will be
better able to educate the whole child. Com-
puters can help to make this possible by giv-
ing our children the opportunity to use other
skills besides reading and writing.
He concluded by saying that Christian
schools must provide a nurturing environ-
ment where our children can be taught
