Open house will mark
Police Week May 11 - 17
The Ontario Provincial Police is joining

celebrating Police Week May 11 to 17.
The slogan for this year's Police Week is
"Serving Your Community", and. ap-
propriate theme marking the week-long
tradition of police departments hosting
open house. In keeping with that tradition,
all OPP facilities will be open to the public.

The 9th Port Albert Lottery draw was held
May 3 at Petrie's General Store. The tickets

On Saturday, May 1,0, a general clean-up
is planned for Port Albert. All helping hands
are asked to meet at Petrie's at 9 a.m. with
their rakes, shovels and push lawnmowers;

Tickets for the CKNX Barndance on June
21 are now available. The last CKNX Barn -
dance in this area was held during the plow-
ing match in 1946.

Symphonic music
comes to Blyth
for first time

debut at Blyth Memorial Hall, Wednesday,
May 14 at 8 p.m. The Blyth Centre for the
Arts is presenting Maestro Raffi Armenian,
conducting an ensemble composed of the
musicians of the world-renowned Canadian
Chamber Ensemble augmented by other
"members of the Kitchener -Waterloo Sym-
phony Orchestra.
This will be the first time symphonic
music has been performed at the Blyth
Memorial Hall. The program consists of a
selection of baroque music including works
by Mozart, Haydn and a portion of the. sym-
phony called the "Venetian", by Antonio
Sailer', the legendary rival of Wolfgang
Amadeus Mozart.
A sampling of the program includes the
four movements of Haydn's Morning Sym-
phony (no. 6); the second of which contains
both violin and cello solo performance;
W.A. Mozart's Violin Concerto in D Major
(no. 3) performed by soloist Moshe Ham-
mer; and Mozart's Clarinet Concerto in A
Major with clarinetist Victor Sawa.
