Jonathan Miller, renowned for his weight of 485 lbs, once ran the Benmiller Hotel. Daniel Miller, his father, is listed in a gazet- teer of 1863 as innkeeper, at which tiitne Jonathan would have been 19. It is not known when Jonathan took over but accor- ding to the Huron Signal of 1877. he and hie motner had erected a large addition to ac- commodate a grocery store and post office. Jonathan conducted Hotel Bedford in Goderich from 1896 until 1904. Also in the 1900's, he operated the Grip House in Seaforth. Jonathan moved to Carlow and operated the Hotel until his death in 1910. Jonathan, married a Miss McCullough of Goderich Township. They enjoyed music and often entertained friends in their home with songs around the piano. This same hospitaiity wili be offered at Jonathan Miller's Tavern on Fri., July 18 when Rudy Meeks, a four, time fiddler champion at Shelburne and a Grand Champion at Nashville will provide toe tapping music. Square dancing will also be enjoyed. Sat. evening will feature the lively polka music of Walter Ostanek. The Algowood arrived light from Toronto April 25 for a load of salt, clearing the Goderich Harbour April 26 for Ferrysburg. The John B. Aird arrived light from Hamilton on April 29 and cleared harbour the next day bound for Milwaukee. The Frankcliffe Hall from Montreal,arriv- ed light for the first time in Goderieh on May 3 and left the following day with'a load of salt for Montreal. The Frankquelin arrived from Thunder Bay with a load of grain April 21, leaving the next day light to return to Thunder Bay. The Ontadoc arrived with one hold of grain from Collingwood on April 26 and left light for Thunder Bay the same day. The Canadoc arrived with one hold of grain from Thunder Bay on April 29,, and cleared harbour April 30 bound for Prescott with a load of grain. The Canadian Coast Guard boat Ca Hurd returned to Goderich Harbour for t season April 25 and the Island Queen cruise ship arrived in the harbour from Toronto April 26.
