Class works on sports unit
BY MICHELLE GLENN
AND HEIDI ZOETHOUT
This month Mrs. Allen's grade 7 class has
been working on an integrated unit entitled
Sports. Stations have been set up and each.
group rotates each day. Some of the ac-
tivities include: math research, story
writing (computer) and drama.
The students are also working on the
props for the grade eight operetta, Monster
Madness.
Mrs. Smith and 7A were busy baking
goodies for a bake sale last Friday. This was
the first fund raising event 7A will hold to
raise money for a class trip at the end of the
year.
Class 8B is working on a creative writing
assignment. They are to choose three
possessions. Pretend they are locked away
for 50 years in a chest and then brought out.
The three things were chosen very careful-
ly. They told why these things were chosen
and the effect they night have 50 years
hence. -- -
Mr. Matthies had a prescription of
"Grouch Control Pills" as prescribed by Dr.
Y.U. Pout. The pills are "mysteriously" be-
ing refilled. The pills look and taste like
Smarties!
Mrs. Harison, the school secretary ap-
preciates the thoughtfulness of everyone at
the school who. remembered her on
Secretary's- Day., Special thanks to Miss
Rankin's grade 3 for the lovely cards the
class made.
Robertson Roundup...
Mrs. Scratch's grade one class has been
working hard but has also been enjoying the
spring-like weather. The grade one's friend,
Miss the Dolphin, has been teaching them
matey ways of co-operating, and getting
along with others. Grade one is also trying
to remember their Warm Puzzles Each day.
Grade one ,would also like to ' remind
Mothers to Keep May 9 free for the Annual
Mother's Day Luncheon. Grade one is cer-
tainly looking forward to this event.
Miss Rankin'S grade 3 class has just comb
plated a very interesting topic on pioneers
with a visit and talk by a lovely gentleman,
Lloyd Walter. who Is 91 years old. The

children thoroughly enjoyed listening to his
tales of the early days in Huron County
which he recalled so vividly. They couldn't
believe that kids actually walked five miles
to school (aren't Moms meant to drop you
off in the car?) and that they went home and
worked on the farm or did chores rather
than watch TV.
A few weeks ago they had a wonderful
morning trampling through ' the snow-
covered woods at i3lack's 'Point looking at
the pioneer cottages, ending the morning off
with hot chocolate and homemade cookies
(yum! ) by a big open warm fireplace in one
of the cottages (Grade 3 also did some
"pioneer cooking" (`with the help of some
modern). They also made old-fashioned
muffins, and ended the topic with a "pioneer
pancake party"! They ate them with maple
syrup - gooey, but fun! All agreed it was a
very successful theme. The next topic is
Australia! Pethaps they'll be allowed to
ta

Remember the good old days when spring
meant alleys? Well, the good old days were
brought back as Mr. McConnell's grade 5
class designdd alley games, played by the
entire class. The entire school was challeng-
ed to try to lose their marbles.
The grade 5 class has been studying "The
Prince and the Pauper" in tutor times. They
are all working on a project Mich might in-
clude building a castle, creating a shadow
box, comparing their homes to ,.ours Or '
perhaps dolls to illustrate the difference in
clothing. For a flashback to medieval times
take a look •at grade 5.
On Wed. April 8 the grade 6 class went to
the police station, the fire hall and saw an
ambulance and its attendant for their V.I.P.
program which- stands for Values, In-
fluences, and Peers. Constable Poulter
comes in to talk every Tuesday arid Thurs-
day about choosing friends, drug abuse, the
dangers of smoking and drinking and safe-
ty, The tip to the police station was part of
the 'talk with Constable Poulter about
authority figura. This past Tuesday they
talked about the abuse of drugs and the af-
fects and hazards of drugs. The program
helped them a lot.
