MOTHER'S DAY
DID YOU
KNOW... .
fir 1 other's Day is a holiday which has been observed since 1914, when it
was proclaimed as a public expression of our- love and reverence for the mothers'
of our country. r
This was not a new idea. Mother's Day existed in England as "Mothering Sunday':
It was ecially popular with British servants and apprentices who looked forward
to they when they were permitted to 'go -a -mothering'; to visit their homes and
mothers. Many walked long distances to be home for the holiday which was a family
reunion. Thus, Mother's Day has truly been a special day for a great many years.
This year Mother's Day falls on Sunday, May 11 when Canadian Mothers will again
be the centre of attention.
Flowers have long been used to express respect, thanks and love on
Mother's Day,...whether it's around the corner or across the world
let us help you say it best with Flowers.

Bike-a-thon
The West Huron Junior Farmers meeting
held April -14, opened with the Junior farmer
song.
Topics of discussion included the club's
part in the Pork Congress, the Lucknow
tractor pull booth and the County King and
Queen competition. West Huron contestants
for the crowns are Sharon Alton and Jerry
Logtenburg.
Organizational strategies were outlined
for the upcoming dance May 30, the annual
November banquet and parade floats.
A provincial event, Culturama which was
held earlier this month was highlighted by
Anne Alton.
Enthusiastic members enjoyed a game of
volleyball after the meeting adjourned.
Four-year-old Stacey Scottand three-year-old Marc Miller seemed to be discussing the dif-
ference between riding on your own.and going along for the ride before the Bike-a-thon for
Cancer got underway on Sunday afternoon in Goderich. Close to 60 participants raised $2600.
