The team of Marg Hall and John Wood finished first overall and was followed by the team of Audrey Tobin and Archie Hamilton. For outstanding contribution to minor hockey in Goderich, Lawrence Scott was presented with the James A. Wilkinson Memorial Trophy at the minor hockey banquet last Sunday. lnheto by Susan Hnndertmark) eagte enters second d Twenty-two teams will play over 231 games Along with our own major tournament - August 1, 2, 3, 4, the league is sponsoring a Minor League Tournament in early July, in which all minor ball teams in town are welcome to compete at their own level. En- try and refreshments are free, for the players, and a good time will be had by all. The long awaited "new Constitution" promised last season, is now in the hands of team- reps. Though, as a package, it must go through for the sake of consisten- cy in league operation, I'm certain that the team reps will want to modify certain sec- tions at the upcoming league meeting — April 27 at 2:00 p.m. at the Rec Office. From the feedback received, some of the "hot" items seem to be player eligibility, minimum age, steel cleats in outfield, third strike foul, play, format and the self destruct clause! Should be a meeting to remember. Once complete, we plan to have the constitution typed and put into booklet form, with enough copies available for evveryone, lathe lgaguue.. - - Timeand space does not permit me to go .into such things as League 50/50 draw etc. - but there is plenty of time for that in the weeks to come. The season opener is just 25 days away. It's time to get down to some serious practice! Anyone want to throw a ball around? BY "BREWSTER" Hello again fellow slowpitch players. Welcome to the second decade of ball in town. in the past 10 years, we have grown from six or seven teams to this years high of 22 teams representing over 400 men in the community. Those of us who were around at the beginning, have been witness to and part of, this tremendous growth. We have a slowpitch tournament, second to none, in this area. We have raised enough funds to put a fence around GDCI diamond and upgraded the Signal -Star Diamond to its present form as well as make many con- tributions to other groups. Yes, fellow slowpitchers, we all have something to be proud of. Your 1986 Executive sees the return of Tim Frawley as president and Ron Stewart as treasurer. John Hruden has taken on the duties4 of tournament chair - 011 vglIttopt'; oeial director/secretary,. Yours truly, Bruce Baker, has•come ottt Of retirement for the third time, to!assutne the role of schedul- ing chairman. All teatns from last year have remained with the, league and three new teams have joined. We all welcome The.Chiefs, Home Hardware and Suncoast Restaurant and Tavern to our League. Nick Thiakos, owner of the Suneoast Restaurant, comes to us from the Toronto area, and is anxious to witness, first hand, this game of slowpitch that is so popular in our town. Many things have been goingon at the executive and league level the past several months. The regular season schedule is now available from Brewster. Team reps are welcome to drop by and pick up a team set. With the increase in teams, the regular season schedule has growitfrom 171 games to 231 games, an increase of 35.1 percent. In an effort to maximize diamond availability and minimize cost, we have. found it necessary to go to a slightly ex- panded Sunday schedule, double headers at Signal -Star on Fridays and three games per week at the Benmiller diamonds on Thursday nights. It is an extremely tight schedule that can show little patience for avoidable reschedules. . It will work out fine with the cooperation of Mother Nature — which reminds me — our season opens with eight games on Mother's Day — Ouch!
