On Apr. 13 a flotilla of 26 'vessels took voyage in the Bayfield River as part of the Sesquicentennial celebrations. It was more of an endurance test, with rapids and lots of rocks. on A few unlucky voyageurs ran aground some sharp rocks making it impossible for them to complete the race when they ripped the bottoms out of their vessels. However, everyone did enjoy themselves and the four- hour rally. Winners were Wayne Dunn and Bill Campbell with three Aces, a King and a Jack, second was Jarle Fisher with three Aces, a Jack and a four, third was Mike Veale with a pair of ninesand a pair of sixes. Area wedding JERRY -BROWN Jolla H. Jerry of Greenwood, Nova Scotia and Catherine M. Brown of Maccan, Nova Scotia were married by Father • Joe MacLean in Greenwood on March 1, 1986. The groom is the son of. Burns and Catherine Jerry of Goderich and the bride is the daughter of Angus and Mary Brown of Mac - can, N.S. Colleen Brown of Greenwood was maid of honour and Christina Herman of Greenwood was bridesmaid. Heather Guthro of Springhill was flowergirl and . Sean Jerry of Goderich was ringbearer. Rob Jerry of Goderich was bestman and Perry Matte of Greenwood was groomsman. Richard Allen of Springhill and Brian Worth of Greenwood were ushers. A reception followed 'at the Officers .Mess, Greenwood. The couple enjoyed a honeymoon to London, England. They are residing in Greenwood. John's parents entertained at a dinner held al the Officers Mess following. the rehearsal the evening before the wedding. While the canoe rally was under- way around 600 people gathered at the Var- na complex to enjoy an afternoon filled with Old Tyme. Jamboree music. There were over 75 performers from all over Ontario and there was non-stop music for about seven hours. A few 'local performers took to the stage. Leona McBride played her trumpet, Ray- mond Cantelon and George Dowson had their fiddles out and after a little bit of coax- ing Diane Peck. and Debbie Rathwell came out of a long retirement to step -dance. A meal that was cooked up by Marion Col- eman and Sandra Turner was served. Con- - gratulations to Jean Armstrong, Blanche Parke and Myrtle Taylor for organizing such a successful event. THREE LIKES. Brant County beat Huron by one point for the .championship over 25 teams. Huron. County's 4-H program was well represented by . the team of Anita Bos, Audrey Bos, Donna Johnston, and Sandra Shelley. Sandra Shelley' was Grand Cham- , pion Swine Showman, and had a High In- dividual Score. Anita and Audrey showed in the Dairy Showmanship Class and • Donna competed in the Sheep Showmanship Class. ' Huron's team was also 'one of only two teams that passed the quiz. OBITUARIES • JEAN (MacEWAN) CHOWEN M.Jean MacEwan Chowen of Goderich, formerlfof Toronto died at Maitland Manor in Goderich on Sunday, April 6, 1986 at the age of 82. Born in Saltford, Colborne Township on June 12, 1903, she was a daughter of the late, Peter J. MacEwan and Alice Goldthorpe. She married W. •, Roy Chowen who predeceased her. • She is survived by two nieces, Eleanore Scott of Meaford and Catherine McKnight of Clinton and three nephews, • Donald MacEwan of Goderich, Peter Forbes of Orillia and Frank Fingland. She was predeceased by two sisters, Edna Forbes and Alice MacEwan and one brother, - George G. MacEwafl and one nephew, Peter S. MacEwan. The funeral was conducted from the Mc- Callum Fu'heral Home on Tuesday,' April 8, 1986 by Rev. G.. L. Royal of Knox Presbyterian Church.
