real estate is brisk
BY SHARON DIETZ
The brisk real estate market in
Goderich this spring is a reflection of
Goderich's strong economy say local real
estate representatives.
Rental accommodatipn is scarce and
there's few residential lots left in town
which puts pressure on the resale home
market, according to Bill Clifford of Bill
Clifford Real Estate.
Goderich is very vibrant and very
positive, he says. Good things are happen-
ing here which has kept Goderich in the
forefront. People want to live here. Ex-
isting industry is stable and small business
is locating here.
Clifford says people who grew up here
are also returning to Goderich to retire.

mortgage money means all segments of
,the market are looking to buy, says Pete
Bettger of Maurice Gardiner Real Estate
Ltd. The economy is stronger•and new jobs
are being created, says Bettger who points
to the Bluewater Centre which has brought
people to Goderich and the additional ac-
tivity projected because of the harbour
development.
One of the positive factors in the market
resurgance is the new home construction,
says Gary Rupert of Century 21 All Points
Realty Inc. There has been very little con-
struction since 1978-79, says Rupert who is
glad to see the market opening up.
"Homes are great things for people.
They provide security in old age and a feel-
ing of well being,"he observes.
Tenders awarded at PUC meeting
l
The following tenders were awarded for a
backhoe loader, a pickup truck, conven-
tional chassis and digger derrick at a
special meeting of the Public Utilities
Commission.
The successful tender for the backhoe
was C. G. Farm Supply of Zurich for
$26,134.75. Three other tenders were sub-
mitted including Case Power Eauipment
of Lambeth, $30,388., George Wraith of
Goderich, $28,355. and X R Equipment,
London, $30,862.01. All of the tenders met
the PUC specifications. The two Case
tenders were for identical machines. Past
experience and service over the past 20
years with Case backhoes has been very
good and the commission decided to ac-
cept the lowest Case tender.
Jim Hayter Chev's tender for $10,565.18
was accepted for the pick-up truck. Two
other tenders were submitted,•Ken McGee
Pontiac for $11,759.30 and Ed Riegle

Plymouth Chrysler for $11,208.25.
Jim Hayter Chev's tender of $25,578.35
for the conventional chassis was also ac-
cepted. Bluewater Truck Centre submitted
the`other tender for $34,865.95.. While both
met the PUC specifications, the Bluewater
Truck Centre is high priced because they
only have a diesel engine. The commission
decidedto purchase the chassis from Jim
Hayter because of the price difference.
King Equipment had the successful
tender for the digger derrick. It was for
$83.147.56. Two other tenders were Altec
Industries for $81,486.92 and Wajax In-
dustries for $80,883.44. King Equipment is
the only tender to meet PUC specifica-
tions. Altec Industries and Wajax In-
dustries did not include the, deck winch in
the tender. With the winch, the Altec
tender rose to $8$,386.92 and The Wajax
tender rose to $87,941.44. The commission
decided to purchase the King tender
Compromise found, say doctors
Dear Editor,
The Honorable Premier David Peterson
has suggested The Quebec Solution as a
possible option for negotiation with the On-
tario Medical Association. The Quebec
system pays opted in doctors at the govern-
ment rate. Patients who attended opted out
physicians pay the entire professional fee
themselves with no recompense from the
government plan.
Unlike Quebec, we in Ontario regularly
pay OHIP insurance premiums ($704 per
° family per year). Therefore, for a just On-
tario solution, it would be only fair that pa-
tients be reimbursed the OHIP payment
benefit in cases where they have paid their
physician his full professional fee. This
would be paid by the government directly to
the patient and the physician would not be
paid . by the government in that cir-
cumstance. The patient thus would be Com
pensated for his regular OHIP insurance
premium payments.
Sincerely,
James Rourke, M.D., C.C.F.P. (E.M. )

P.S. The system described above is
presently working well in our province of
Ontario. It could be improved by
eliminating possible full billing ("extra-
billing") for patients who have passed the
government's own means test to qualify for
OHIP premium assistance. This would be
much betted redtph se4 hap ,the ,destructive,
