Quintessence to perform
in final Rotary concert
series here Saturday
And now for something completely dif-
ferent and delightful.
• This Saturday the Goderich Rotary Club
presents its final concert. of the 1985-86
series at North Street United Church. at 8
p.m. featuring the unique sounds and talents
of Quintessence.
Formerly . know as Collage, popular de-
mand for Quintessence has grown in the
past year. A string quartet with guitar, the
group combines versatile musical talents
• with engaging wit and humour on stage.
Anthony Flint and Julian Knight bring
their classical violin, and viola playing skills
together with a bent for the hilarious; Juno
award winning Lehny Solomon contributes
a musical style that ranges from jazz and
country to classical. Jose Shapero' moves
easily from a 'jazz walking bass' .on his cello
to the classical and romantic repertoire;'
Bill Bridges, who provides Quintessence
with much of its most popular material,
demonstrates remarkable virtuosity on ban-
• lo, acoustic and electric guitar.
Quintessence has appeared on Global and
CBC television networks in addition to giv-
ing concerts in Toronto and throughout the
province. The group is currently on a tour of
Canada.
The group has received rave reviews from
major papers across the country and the
quintet has been called everything from
"one of the most unush 1 and gifted groups"
to polished and flawless ormers.
The group lives up to s reviews and
musically spellbinds audi ces with colour-
ful medleys.
Originally formed in 1982 to play educa-
tional concerts in Ontario schools, the grobp
has branched out of the classroom and is
now a full-time proposition.
The string quartet is made up of two
violinists, a violist, and a cellist. This unique
group promises to entertain with a variety
of music, wit and humour.
