NATIONAL TRUST A Division of National Victoria and Grey Trustco R GODERICH -100 Kingston St. 524-7381 ti Sports Curling League heads into playoffs Thursday Cam Bogie and his Forester— team returned triumphant from the Canadian Foresters Championship to battle once again with some rnore "down to earth" teams in the Goderich Industrial League, Cam and his rink still finished on top, however, with a record of 14 wins and only one loss. It seemed quite prophetic that their only loss came when they had to use a substitute team to play for them while they were away in Brantford two weeks ago. The 1863 team were the winners in that one. Cam's rink consists of Jim Hawkins, vice, Roger Moore, second, and Bill Koran, Lead. They will square off against Jeff Harrison and his Super -Shell team this Thursday in the final Bonspiel .of the year. Jeff Harrison Will have a chance to redeem himself, as he let Cam -defeat him in their game last Thursday, in a close, last -rock battle. In other games last Thursday, the 1863 Union team narrowly- defeated The Port Albert Ice Cubes 4-3, -and the- Sifto Salt Evaporators 'nudged Victoria and Grey 7-6. In an extra end game, the GDCI Vikings let a win slip out of their grasp and let the Elementary teachers in, 7-6. In the nine o'clock games, Phil Main Junior skipped his Viking Vets team to a big 10-2 win over the Lady Foresters, skip- ped .by Vickie, Culbert, while John Orr's Health team handled the Hospital team, skipped by Ken Englestad, 7-2. ON THE - RDGKS at the Maitland The GDCI Teacher number 2 team had some difficulty on sheet four and the Maitland Lady Golfers defeated them 7-5. •The other GDCI Teacher team had a close game with Jack Kellough and his Legion team, but managed to stave off a last -end come -back to win 7-2. St. Patrick's Bonspiel held at Maitland Club After weeks of enthusistic preparation the 13th Annual St. Patrick's bonspiel began to unfold as the first draw took to the ice on Friday, March 14 at 7 p.m. A feature of the committee this year were the recent- ly arrived members Marika 'Howard and Shelly Schriner who brought their energy and fresh approach to planning the popular bonspiel. - Opening the two-day bonspiel, M.C. Wayne Steward welcomed curlers from across Ontario. He outlined the special events, beginning with the Paddy's Hat contest sponsored by King's Book and Gift Shop. A green bowler was wore by the teams making double take-outs (not in- cluding two of their own stones''") The Nephew family were the final wearers in the First Draw and the Murdock family team won the prize in the second draw. The delicious aroma of Mrs. Mulligan's Stew ( Leslie Zolob) met the curlers corn- ing off the ice. Punctuating the games ,were, draws AO, raffles.),alt t!► ell-swpaorted.
