Girls cap undefeated season with championshi win over Exeter
Ministry holds
meetings over
proposed fees
The Goderich Tween Ringette team cap-
ped a remarkable season Saturday by win-
ning the Huron -Perth League champion-
ship over Exeter.
The victory put the finishing touches on
a phenomenal season for the young girls
who went through league andexhibition
games undefeated and they often won by
lopsided scores. The only 'blot on their
season record was a forfeit to Mitchell
earlier in the year.
The best -of -three final series against Ex-
eter was the toughest test for the Tweens
and although they did not lose a game in
the final round, Exeter was a formidable
opponent.
Goderich won the first game of the series
7-6 and the teams tied 6-6 in the second
game here''last Monday. •
Goderich won game 3 in Exeter Friday
7-4 and then clinched the league champion-
ship with an 8-5 victory in Goderich Satur-
day night.
Goderich broke open a 2-2 late in the first
period Saturday with a pair of goals in the
last two minutes't° carry a 4-2 lead into the
final period. The home team then took to
the offence and built up a 8-3 lead with
under four minutes left in regulation time.
Exeter fought back with two goals in the
dying minutes but the Gpderich Tweens
held off the comeback and won the game,
and the Huron -Perth championship, 8-5.
Alesha Glousher led the Goderich of-
fence scoring three goals while teammate
Stacey Clarence chipped in with two goals.
Jennifer Hamilton, Angie Harrison and
Rebecca Harrison scored one goal each for
Goderich. Trisha Rumig led in the assist
department setting up three goals while
Hamilton, Leslie Brereton, Tara Haylow
and Denise Johnston had two apiece in the
final game.
The victory gave Goderich a record of
three wins and one tie in the best -of -five
final series. The tie game occured in
Goderich in Game 2 and no overtime was
played to determine a winner.
In that game, Goderich scored with less
than two minutes.left in the game and held
off a last minute flurry by Exeter to earn
the 6-6 tie. Goderich .clearly outshot Exeter
in the game but.the forwards either missed
the net or hit the Exeter goaltender.
The teams were tied 2-2 after the first
period of play but Exeter capitalized on its
chances and led 6-4 .withunder Jennifer
minutes left in the game.
Hamilton scored 10 seconds after Exeter's
sixth goal to pull Goderich within one and "
then Jackie Crawford scored with a
minute and a half left to tie the game. ,
Exeter had several opportunities to win
the game in the final minute but Goderich
held off the rally and settled for a tie.
Goderich won the third game • of the
series in Exeter Friday, 7-4, as Angie Har-
rison scored three goals. Rumig,
Crawford, Beckfy Harrison and Clarence
.each scored one goal in the win.

Tweens include; Shelley Alcock, Leslie
