Speaker urges Auburn Wornn's
Institute to buy Canadian
The Auburn Women's Institute was held
at the community hall on Tuesday Mar. 18
with 17 present. Agriculture and Canadian
Industries was the topic.
The president Mr. Len Archambault
chaired the meeting. Mrs. Robert Peck in-
troduced the guest speaker Richard
Hamilton from Agriculture and Food, Clin-
ton and he showed a film on "Food Price
Dialogue".
He stressed that we all buy Canadian. He
was thanked by Mrs. Lloyd Barth and
presented with a gift.
The minutes of the last meeting and the
treasurer's report were read by secretary
Mrs. Robert Peck. It was reported that
there was an Atlas put in the library and the
piano had been repaired.
Plans were made for the Annual Meeting
and dinner to be held Apr. 22 at the Bedford
Hotel, Goderich at noon. The committee in
charge is to arrange for rides. All reports
are to be brought in that day.
The card report was given by Lillian
Leatherland. There was a card signed by all
to send to Dorothy Bennett who is a patient
in Victoria Hospital, London.
Mrs. Lloyd Barth gave a reading entitled
"Farmer's Boy". Lillian Leatherland had
the slate of officers and everyone agred to
stay the same for the coming year and will
be installed at the banquet.

1986 at 3:33 a.m. Meghan tipped the scales

Anita Gross recited the "Woes of The
Farmer". Lunch was served by Mrs. E.
Lapp, Mrs. R. Peck and Mrs. Lloyd Barth.
Lucky cup was won by Marian Haggitt and
the anniversary closest to that day was Jean
Plaitzer.
Auburn U.C.W. Thankoffering
Even with inclement weather a number of
guests attended Auburn U.C.W. Easter
Thankoffering meeting. Mrs. Gordon Gross
and Marjorie McDougall played the prelude
on the piano and organ.
Mrs. Peter Verbeek opened the service
and welcomed the guests. Mrs. Verbeek led
the devotional.
A duet was sung by Lori Millian and
.Christine Busch with Mrs. Barry Millian as
accompanist. Mrs. Verbeek led in prayer.
Betty March introduced the guest speaker
Mrs. R. J. Crocker of Goderich. Mrs.
Crocker spoke on the "Life and the Resur-
rection." To the disciples and to the World
Jesus resurrection was new, a complete
change. They finally realized that they must
anceot the change and serve God's rising
son for the rest of their lives. Out of their ac-
ceptance, the Church grew.
Mrs. Gary Shuttleworth thanked Mrs.
Cocker for her speech. "Blessed
Redeemer" was sung by Miss Millian and
Miss Busch.
Miss Busch played a violin solo during the
offertory with Miss Millian accompanying.
Mrs., Jack Armstrong and Mrs. Orval
McPhee received the offering. Mrs.
Verbeek closed the worship with prayer.
Euchre Results
The weekly euchre party was held
Wednesday, Mar. 19 at 8 p.m. at Community
Hall with.five tables in play. Winners were,
high man, Murray Rollison; low man,
Edgar Daer; high lady, Bernice McClin-
chey; low lady, Lillian Steward and novelty,
Carol Daer.
Knox United Church Service
The Minister Gary Shuttleworth was in
charge of the Palm Sunday service and the
celebration of Communion with Rev. Pickell
of Goderich as guest Minister. Organ and
piano Prelude was played by Mrs. Gordon
Gross and Lori Millian.
Introit was done by the Junior Choir with
palm leaves entering the Church singing
"We're Following Jesus" under the direc-
tion of Mrs. Allan Webster and Mrs. Gordon
Gross.
The senior 'Choir sang. "Blessed Is He"
with Mrs.• Barry Millian as pianist. The
Junior congregation was run by Karen
Webster and Gail Dobie.

Huron Chapel Missionary Chufeh
The monthly adult fellowship meeting
took the form of a bowling party, followed
by a surprise celebration of Pastor and Mrs.
Carne's 35th Wedding Anniversary.
The event took place at the home of John
and Heather McCowan. Debbie Newcomb
made and decorated a large cake, and a gift
certificate for a gourmet dining experience
was presented to the couple for the occasion.
Pastor Carne presented the devotional
part of the evening by showing slides of a
trip to Haiti where he helped to construct a
church in 1971 and speaking on the subject of
"compassion."
In the Sunday evening service Pastor
Carne announced that there would be a Sun-
day School contest initiated on Easter Sun-
day and running through the month of April.
Points would be given for attendance, bring-
ing new people, and learning Bible verses.
Four teams captained by Heather Mc-
Cowan, Lorraine Carne, Wayne Young and
David Rodges will be racing to the moon.
Pastor Carnee� announced also that he
would be showifi`g slides of his recent trip to
Isreal this coming sunday evening in the 8
p.m. service. Brenda sang in both services
and Pastor Carne preached on "The Corning
King" and on "Praising God."
Local News
We are sorry to report that Mrs. Marsh is
a patient in Clinton Public Hospital and
Dorothy Bennett is a patient ir. Victoria
Hospital London. We wish them a speedy
recovery.
The Auburn District Lions Club is having
an April Fools dance on Mar, 29 at the Com-
munity Hall.
The Auburn District Lions Club had a full
house for their euchre tournament Mar. 15.
The next tournament will be Apr. 5.
Good Friday Service will be held at Knox
United Church on Friday Mar. 28 at 3 p.m.
We are -glad for the shoppers of Auburn to
have the store open again under the name J
J'•s. General Store on the Main Street. It is
operated by Jetrid Rueger and Jacques
Lapierre.
Unit I of Knox United Church
Unit I of Knox U.C.W. met in the Church
with 13 ladies present. Since the World Day
of Prayer meeting had been cancelled due to
winter storm the service pamphlet was
followed with Ruth Armstrong. Marie
Young, Marg Robinson and Claire
McDowell taking the leading parts.
The theme chosen for this unit meeting
was `Peace'. The ladies mentioned above
spoke about how peace spreads beginning in
the hearts and in the homes, churches, com-
munities, nation and so to the entire world.
Margaret Bakker the leader, was in
charge of the business which included plans
for distributing the Easter treats to the shut-
ins.
Share -prizes --at casino • night
Over 100 people attended the second an-
nual Foresters Casino°Night held at the Ben -
miller Hall, March 21.
Forty-four people entered the euchre tour-
nament held in the newly renovated base-
ment and five winning teams shared $50 in
cash prizes.
Frank Flick, Bill Whitely, Jean Ginn and
Charlie Johnston shared $100 in cash door
prizes.
Approximately $1,300 was raised to help
the Foresters with their projects as well as
their support of local charities and cancer
research.
The fund raising committee appreciates
the support of those who attended and
members of both lodges who helped to make
the event a success. It is hoped that the im-
proved facility will encourage other local
groups touse the Benmiller Hall and
grounds for any fund raising or social event.
IODE iistens' to pub
speaking contest
The Goderich IODE was held at the home
of Betty Garland. Mrs. Louis McGill in-
troduced the winners of the public speaking
contest, Maureen Murphy who spoke on the
Legion and Jason Dempsey on Fashion of
new and old. Mrs McGill presented them
with a small token from the chapter.
The meeting cohtinued with Mrs. Murphy
reading the minutes. Regent Cathy Boddy
installed two new members info the chapter.
Lynn Todghan and Mrs. Clare Patterson.
Mrs. Nephew read the treasurer's report.
Mrs. Edwards, chairman of ways and
means, suggested having,a speaker and lun-
, cheon for the fund raising projects this year.
It was discussed whether to keep the op-
portunity shop open. It was notedthat it
