.Museum plans direction
•'from page 9 .
The 1984 feasibility study recommended
retaining the current site and the school
building if it is economically feasible.
Huron County Council 'has decided. to
refurbish the school Wilding and
reconstruct the other museum buildings
over the four year, period of construction.
The feasibility study determined the cur-
rent location is favoured by museum
visitors and county residents. The present
site is especially preferred by Goderich
residents.
The historic school building is a major
factor contrlbuting to the preference for
the present site. The architectural value
and the atmosphere created by the school
building are considered to be important
assets of the museum.
From a market perspective, Goderich is

the best location, says the study. It is the
largest town in the county. -It has the
greatest variety of support services, ac-
commadation, food .and; , beverage
facilities, shopping and entertainment. It
has ' complementary tourist attractions,
the Historic Gaol, Marine Museum, water-
front 'park and harbour and the town has
-tourism appeal as the "prettiest town- in
Canada". Furthermore, the museum has
long been associated with- Goderich and
changing locations. would . require
substantial marketing expenditures.
The Nolfh Street, site is advantageous
due to its proximity to the downtown
Square and the atmosphere created by an
older residential neighbourhood. Any dif-
ficulties in finding the museuM could easi-
ly be corrected by effective sigh place-
ment .
