SI6Ni"L STAR Volume 12 Issue 9 Yount cAnADA HOCKEY WEER LY Gf D1ERXCH S G1, AL -STAR,, WEDNESDAY, MARCH 19, 1986 --PAG Seaforth captain accepts the C Division championship trophy Seaforth wins C Division title '5-4, in overtime thriller The C Diyision championship game between Seaforth and Har- riston provided a fitting conlcu- sion to the 37th Young Canada Peewee Hockey Tournament Saturday. The game was fast, well - executed, featured a bit of drama and last minute heroics and when it was all over, Seaforth carried home the C championship trophy with a well-earned 5-4 win in overtime. The victory was the fourth straight of the tournament for .Seaforth. They beat Forest in their first tournament game and advanced with victories over Lambeth and Palmerston in the semi-final. Harriston defeated Mitchell in its first-round game and, they beat Wingham and Parkhill to reach the cahmpionship. While many championships in the tournament were decided by lopsided scores, the final ganpe Saturday provided some ex- cellent hockey action -as the lead and flow of the game changed several times. Seaforth led 2-1 after one period of play but Harriston tied the game with the only goal otthe se- cond period. Harriston took the lead for the first time with a goal just 12 seconds. into the final period but Seaforth fought back with two goals to take a 4-3 lead with less than two minutes re- maining in the game. Harriston never gave up and after pulling their goalie for an •extra attacker, scored the tying goal from a scrable with just six second remaining, in regulation tithe. Ray Murray scored the winn- ing goal two minutes into over- time after he picked up a loose puck, skated in unmolested, dek- ed Jason Pilkington in the Har- riston goal and'slid the puck into the empty net. The goal -was the second of the game for Murray who scored a goal in the first period and set up another for a three-point effort. Team-mate Brian Cook also scored. two goals, both of them in the third period and was credited with an assist on Murray's first goal. Jason McNichol scored "the ' other Seaforth goal. Steven McDougall, David Ross, Dan Quigley and Greg McNevan scored the Harriston goals. SCORING SUMMARY FIRST PERIOD 1.Seaforth 4:58 -Jason McNichol 2. Seaforth 5:32 -Murray from Cook 3. Seaforth- 2:06 -Murray Seaforth moved on with 3-2 win Seaforth and Plamerston played their C division champion- ship round semi-final game Saturday morning with Seaforth coming out on top of a 3-2 score. Seaforth opened scoring after a tight eight minutes of play which saw the two evenly matched teams playing up and down the ice but not .gaining control ofthe game. Seaforth captain Jason Papple put the first goal on the. scoreboard with a good in- dividual effort. The two teams traded ends with the single goal on the board, scored at 8:47. Palmerston offense started clicking and that gave them a two period still to go.. Paul Douglas scored the first Palmerston goal evening the game up at one, ,assisted by Richard Bowman at 2:24. At 5:23 Trent Hilpert scored the last Palmerston goal of the game, assisted by Brett Long. Palmerston kept the lead they built tip in the second forathird of the final period until Jason McNichol evened up the game with Papple getting his second point of the game. Papple helped set up the final goal as well, figuring in every Seaforth score and again, McNichol was triggerman for the winning goal. Jeff Gemmell also goal lead going into the third and assited on the oal in a eriod in an upper hand with the thir?l`""`�`�"w i c'hi'SMI'f'll4�inated the game with good fore -checking and some fine goaltending by Jason Patterson.
