The teams played the deciding game in their best -of -three semi-final series last Wednesday and an overtime goal by Bill • Lewis was needed todecide the issue as Green Machine won 5-4. When the Flyers did make an errant foray in the Machine zone, Lajuenese played his angles well, stood his ground and made the saves. Green Machine built up a 3-0 lead in the first period and that lead held until Bed- ford finally scored with one second left in the second period. Until that time, they were kept in check by the dogged Machiners. The goal late in the second period put some fire in the Flyers and they played a much different game in the final period outscoring Murphy's 3-1 to send the contest into overtime. After relinquishing a fourth Machine goal early in the final period, Bedford scored three times in the final seven minutes, the last goal coming with 19 seconds left in the game and Cummings pulled in favor of a sixth attacker: Jerry Rozendal fired a shot from the point that found its way through a maze of players and went into the net for the tying goal. Beford was easily the best team in the overtime session and only a few good defensive plays and the work of Lajuenese kept Green Machine alive. On once rush, Lajuenese robbed Mark Frayne of a sure goal in overtime as he snared the quick snap shot, destined for the top corner, with his glove hand. In retrospect, Bedford should have refused the seven minor penalties handed out to Green Machine. The Flyers couldn't score on the powerplay and they gave up two goals to Breen Machine while playing with the man advantage. , Murphy's first goal came while Bill Peters was sitting out a contact penalty. ' Bill Lewis carried the puck down the ice in- to the Machine zone and fed a perfect goalmouth pass to Larry, Boyce for the game's first goal. Late in the first period, Ron Sowerby threaded a neat pass to Bruce Shoff who scored the second Murphy goal. Half a minute later, John Pines MacDonald scored on an unassisted effort to propel Green Machine into a 3-0 lead. Green Machine pretty much had its own way with the Flyers but the dent was made as Ron Corriveau poked in a loose puck with one second left in the second period to get the Flyers.,back male game, . Green Machine restored its three -goal bulge early in the third as Dave Graff pick- , ed up a loose puck and scored on a fine in- dividual effort with Murphys shorthanded. Undaunted, Bedford came back with goals by Willie Denomme, Frayne and Rozenal's late goal. In the opening game of the series, Green Machine built up a 6-1 lead and watched as Bedford scored five straight goals in the final period to tie the game and force over- time. Bruce Shoff's goal m overtime won it for Green Machine. The Machiners had to be thinking about game one when the Flyers rebounded in game three. Graf turned in a three -goal performance for Murphy's. Bedford handily won the second game, tying the series at one game apiece, 10-5.
