Welcome Exeter couple
to their village home
Tom and Michelle Park, of Exeter have
moved into their home, recently purchased
from Terry and Penny Hodges. We welcome
them to the community.
Jean Phillips reports that the first week
for the ladies physical fitness classes went
well. Anyone interested in keeping fit is
welcome to come out ,any Tuesday evening
to the Seniors Centre.
Company .on Sunday with Jack and
Marion Smith and Lloyd were Helen
Castrenis of London, Mr. and Mrs. Well-
ington Webster and Jim of Lochalsh, Mr.
and Mrs. Robert Smith and son Terry of
Clinton, Nathan, Patti, Natalie and Jamie
Smith of Goderich.
Barry and Cindy MacDonald and
daughter Sadie Mae, off Blyth visited on Sun-
day with Cindy's mcat S Mr. m;d Mrs. Ray
Ulch. •
Frank Thompson of Kincardine died on
Sunday morning in his 72nd year. Frank and
Cora along with their family lived in
Dungannon for many years where Frank

There were 17 tables of cards played at
the Seniors weekly euchre. High score for
the men was Harold Elliott and low man's
score was Ted Bowers. There was .a tie for
lady's high score between Margaret Erl
ington and Becky Culbert, with Margaret
winning the cut. Low score for the women
was Elsie Dyck.
Anniversary greetings were extended to
Les and Vera Purues for their 60th and Ray-
mond and Lois Haggitt for their 30th.
Happy birthday wishes were extended to
Elsie Dyck.
Students explore shapes
with alphabet book

Lois Ottewell's Grade 3 had a special book
cake Iasi, wee:; 2s a treat in•honour of all the
books read by the class. Top three readers •
were Charity Newhook, Patricia Robinson
and Shane Webster.
Mrs. Heslinga from the Board Office also
visited the class and did an alphabet book
with the class using picture words and
shapes. It was a real challenge to make a
word like "elephant" look like an elant
shape.
The library book sale was very successful.
Mrs. Robinson gave a donation of money, so
along with the money from the sale, it will
be possible to buy a Huron County Atlas. °
The students finally finished our table ten-
nis tournament. The winners are: Gr. 5
girls: 1st Tricia Brown, 2nd - Heather Jef-
ferson; Gr. 5 boys: 1st - Jerry Livingston,
2nd - Chris MacDonald; Gr. 6 girls: 1st - Lin-
da Hayden, 2nd - Doreen Debold; Gr. 6
boys: 1st - Matthew Sproul, 2nd - Warren
Andrew; Gr. 7 girls: 1st - Janine Helm, 2nd -
Karen Bakker; Gr. 7 boys: 1st - Billy Cur-

On March 20, Brookside will be holding
their annual table tennis tournament in
which the first place players will
participate. •
Sheila Clarke's room 4 Alphabet has been
amazing. For two weeks they've been work-
ing extremely hard on vowels, centimetres
and writing skills with reminders and
capitals, periods and question marks.
Whew! As a reward, they've had the corn-
' puter for a visitor to print a riddle book for
their friends in Hinton. They also had fun
making books with their reading buddies
about their shared showman making. Carrie
Meriam and Jenny Moir have been their
"Special Me" this week.
The Goderich Lioness Club raised $1500 for the Canadian Diabetic
Association during November's mail campaign. `Jo Anne Collins
presents -the cheque to Teresa Courtney, past president of the.

Donates $1,500 to diabetes foundation
The Lioness Club of Goderich held its
February. meeting on February 25,•1986 at
the Candlelight Restaurant with 22
members and one guest in attendance.
The guest speaker was Bette Hunter of the
Huron Perth Lung Association who spoke
about.her work with the Lung Association -
arid shoed a film on the hazards of smok-
ing. A auestion period followed the infor-
mative .presentation.
The Chairperson of the Diabetes Corwit-
tee, Jo -Anne Collins, gave a report on recent
activities of the Drop -In Centre, and in par-
ticular in connection with the centre held on
Feb. 17. The Committee had been involved
in a campaign for the Diabetes Association
and reported that $1,726.34 was received
from donations in the Goderich. area. This
was a first-time effort for this campaign and
a thank you is extended to everyone who4
made a donation. After expenses for the
campaign were deducted from the funds
received, a cheque in the amount of $1,500.00
was presented to Teresa Courtney, Past
President of the Huron -Bruce Canadian
Diabetes Association. The presentation was
made at the February Drop -In Centre.
Plans are underway for the Diabetes
Drop -In Centre to be held at McKay Hall on
March 17 at 7:30 p.m. A representative from
the Lilly Company, a supplier of items for
the diabetic, will be on hand at the Centre

and will show a film and answer questions
about the products.
The Diabetic Committee was also making
arrangements for people to attend a presen-
tation by Kay Spicer who has written
cookbooks for the diabetics. Spicer will be at
the Huronview Home in Clinton March 20.

reported that Daffodils would be sold on
April 3,4 and 5. Pre -Orders will be taken for
daffodils.
The "Breath of Scotland" convenor,
Dorothy Bogie gave a report on advertising
and ticket sales in connection with Scottish
program to be presented April 23 and 24 at
the GDCI auditorium. The guest speaker for
the evening, Betty Hunter, who was born in
Scotland, advised that she had been to a pro-
gram presented by Ronnie Coburn in
Scotland some time ago and was most in-
terested in the program which is coming to
Goderich, while on a tour in Ontario.
Nominations were made for the officers
for the 1986-87 executive of the Lioness Club.

Teachers in the Huron -Perth Catholic.
schools will have nine professional develop-
ment days for the next school year.
While that may sound normal, the
Catholic school board did cut back the
number of professional development (PD)
days to eight for the current school year.
Both the Huron County and Perth County
boards' of education have nine professional
development days per school year.
Last year, the Catholic school board rolled

Stratford
back one PD day because it felt the students
needed more instruction time. This year,
Mount Carmel principal Laurie Kraftcheck,
chairman of the PD committee, presented
an outline on what will be done. on next
year's PD days. •
Five will be in -school and will deal with
the planning of the 'school year, parent in-
terviews or reviewing the past school year.
Three of the remaining four days will deal
with reading skills. The one day left will
focus on the prevention of sexual abuse.
