Bride's can
Your wedding gown is the ultimate ex-
pression of who you are. Realizing this, a
growing number of women are taking
matters into their own hands by sewing
their own wedding gowns for that very
special day.
Today's bride-to-be has more choices
than ever before in the amount of
sophisticated bridal fabrics, lace and no-
tions available to her.
Since about 75 per cent of store-bought
dresses have to be altered anyway (at an
additional charge to the buyer), sewing
your own dress is not only a statement of
personal expression but it makes'good
sense economically to the legions -of
women who are handy with a.se% ing
machine.
The most superlative bridal fabrics
originate in Europe, particularly in Italy
and France, while imitations of these
fabrics are manufactured in the Orient.
What you're willing to pay depends on
your priorities. You can pay for the finest
creme de la creme of fabrics or you may
be chocSsy
be comfortable wearing a fabric from the
Orient at half the price — still lovely to
look at but not of the finest quality. Find
out from a fabric store where the fabric
originates (some stores make a fact of
not telling you unless you ask!)
There are some people who feel that if
you sew a dress from, a store-bought pat-
tern, your garment won't look very
original. Nothing could be further from
the truth. Due to the availability of
numerous fabrics, lace, notions, and pat-
terns, no two dresses will look exactly
alike.
Vogue patterns are the biggest sellers.
Vogue has two or three dresses that are
magnificent... traditional, sophisticated.
and unique — rolled into one:
One dress looks Victorian with a fitted
bodice, full skirt and long train; another
has a skirt.that;flares out in a feminine,
tulip shape. The instructions for Vogue
bridal patterns are Well thought out, she
says, and most have matching
bridesmaids' pattern included.
