Junior Vikings win at home but
Stratford forces third game in final

The GDCI junior Vikings found
themselves 'one game away from the
Huron Perth basketball championship.
after splitting the first two games of their
best -of -three final series with the Stratford
Central Rams last week.
The Vikings won the first game of=the
series 55-49 here Thursday, but the
Ramblers evened the series with a 61-42
victory on their home court t'riday�. The
third and deciding game was played
yesterday (Tuesday) in Stratford.
The Vikings came up big in game one of
the series Thursday. A strong team effort,
highlighted by the play of Scott Garrow,
gave the Vikes their six point victory. With
B3rroif Bowman and Mike Bush working in-
side for 18 points a piece and Garrow or•
•
chestrating the attack while , getting 11
points himself, the Vikings overcatne a
four -point Rambler half-time lead. Strat-
ford led 13-9 after one quarter antl 30-26 at
the half, but the Vikings were up 39-36 at
the ehd of the third quarter. The Rams got
themselves into foul trouble early and lost
two of their starters, but, it was the Vik-
ings press which caused numerous tur-
novers and set the tempo of the game.
The Vikings' 2-3 zone defence, with
Byron Bowman guarding the Rams big
man in the middle also upset the
Rambler's attack.
Jinx Laithwaite and Sean Wilson were
the other Vikings on the scoresheet with
four poit'lts apiece.
Steve Roberts led the Rambler attack
with a game -high total of 21 points.
Roberts was also his team's top scorer in
Phe second game of theseries, with 14
oints. Garrow topped the Vikings, with 13.
In this game, the Rams kept the Vikings
from penetrating inside and the Rams
were able to control the pace of the game.
Sean Wilson had,eight points for the Vik-
ings, Mike ,Bush added seven, Byron
Bowman hooped six, Scott Glen hit for four
and Andrew MacAdam and Kevin
Haasnoot had two points apiece.
The game was close for three, quarters,
with the Rams up 42=35 at that point, butt
the Rams got hot and the Vikings went cold
in the fourth. The { Vikings continued to
struggle at the foul line with only 10 for 23
while the Rains• were nine for 13. The Vik-
ings also turned the ball over too often to
