The general meeting of Goderich Legion
Branch 109 for the month of February was
held in the Jubilee room with 50 members
present and President John A. MacDonald
in the chair.
The highlight of the meeting was the of-
ficial visit of Zone ConTunander Jack'l'u (ford
who was accompanied by Steve Maguire.
The zone commander congratulated the
branch on its operation and brought us up-
to-date of the latest changes in Legion
policies from command. Maguire also spoke
briefly.
The initiation of four new members, Bill
Graham, Marjorie Moore, Susan Williams
and Shirley Schmidt as associate members
was conducted by Past Presidents I, es Riley
and Bob Chapman.
The Branch approved donations of $200 to
the North Huron Big Brothers Association,
$75 to the Ontario March of Dimes and $280
to the Legion Midget hockey team for play-
off travel expenses. Also approved were the
,Cost of the Branch public -speaking contest
and th travel costs of the branch teams to
district bowling, euchre, cribbage and
darts.
Letters were read giving notice of an Air
Cadet Training Day to be held in the Jubilee
room and of a leadership seminar to be held
at the branch on Feb. 27 at 8 p.m.
Membership Chairman Carolyn Holborn
presented the names of Bryan Baer, Warren
Watt and Charles MacDonald for member-
ship in the branch. The total branch
membership as of Feb. 3 is 964 with a
number of members as yet to pay their 1986
dues. An initiation of new members will be
held on Saturday, Mar. 22 at 2 p.m. in the •
lounge. A.leadership seminar will follow this
initiation ceremony.
Sports Chairman Al Fisher reported that
a branch bowling tournament will be held on
Saturday, Mar. 22 at 1 p.m.
Seven copies of the Diamond Jubilee book
"The Royal Canadian Legion 1926 to 1986"
were donated by the branch to libraries in-
cluding the Huron County, the Goderich
Public and five area schools.
The branch sick and welfare chairman
reports as of Feb. 20, the following members
in hospital. In Alexandra and Marine are
Harold Hibbert, Stan Hadden, George Leit-
ch, Bea McGratten, Jean Elliott, John
McGraw, Bernice Bedour, Les' Chapman
and Teresa Moller; in Packwood are Jack
Kempson, Lorne McAndrew, Joachim
Quellette, Murray Tennant, Anna Wells and
William Michie; in Victoria are Lou Watson
and Florence Maclntyre and in Sunnybrook
is Percy Sheardown.
Members are to note that the branch
honors and awards will be held on Saturday,
Mar. 1, as a joint ceremony with'our Ladies
Auxiliary. Year pins and special awards
will be presented and the Deputy District
Corrunander Glenn Bridge and the Zokie
Commander Jack Tufford will be present.
The Vimy Memorial. banquet will be held
this year on Apr. 12. The branch is,hosting
the Canadian Armed Forces 50 piece band
which will give a public concert on Tuesday
Mar. 25 at the Goderich Collegiate
auditorium. Tickets, are available at the
branch or at the door.
The Branch Jubilee committee will hold a
children's Cabbage Patch party in the
Legion Vimy lounge on. Mar. 12 and a giant
yard sale is being planned for Apr. 26. Fur-
ther details of these events are in your
March bulletin and will also be advertised in
the paper.
The branch executive will meet on Tues-
day, Feb. 25 and the next general meeting of
the branch will be held in the Jubilee room
on Tuesday, Mar. 4.

The Alexandra Marine and General
Hospital Auxiliary net tor its. regular
meeting on Monday Feb. 17, with the Presi-
dent Jean Wheeler, in charge.
Reports of the various convenors were
received anddiscussed.
Since the Treasurer's reports indicated
the auxiliary to be in a healthy financial
position, it was decided that additional
equipment be purchasedfor the hospital.
Hospital Auxiliary mune tags are. being
provided for auxiliary members who do
volunteer work in the hospital.
Twenty-eight candy stripers are presently
serving under the capable supervision of
Ellen Connelly. New uniforms have been
purchased by the auxiliary for them.
• Members were reminded of the bake sale
to be held in the Auxiliary Room on Mar. 21.
Indians are
topic at
Know W.M.S
Knox W.M.S. Afternoon Auxiliary met in
the church parlour Tuesday, Feb. 18.
• President Mrs. R. McAllister opened the
meeting with an inspiring poem followed
with a hymn.
• Twenty-seven ladies answered the roll
call. Mrs. B. Sanderson read the minutes of
the last meeting.
Mrs. C. Edwards announced,the Stratford
Huron Presbytery -mom eeting would. be held in
Stratford on Mar. 24. Transportation will be
provided.
The Lord's Day of Prayer will be held in
the Christian Reformed Church Mar. 7. The
speaker is Vivian Grant, a returned mis-
sionary from Angola. -
Irene Young read the scripture.
Mrs. G. Henderson and her group held the
devotion with the topic, the Indians of B,C:
and Ontario. They gave a 'very interesting
talk on the Indians early life in B.C., living
first on the Queen Charlotte Islands,, then
moving to the mainland depending on
nature for their living, food ,as berries,
animals and fish, iron for their work and
canoes for transportation.
Mrs. Kennedy read prayers used by the
Indians in their elaborate religion. '
