Phone 524-9585 Mayor Eileen Palmer cut the ribbon to officially open the new Mac's Convenience Store at the cornor of Kingston and Victoria Streets Friday afternoon. Those in attendance included from the left Ed Wilkinson, area rep for Mac's Convenience Stores; Doreen McCormick, Mac's dealer; Mayor Palmer and Lou McMahon, zone manager for Mac's Convenience Stores. The second Mac's Conve- nience Store to open in Goderich, this store will also be open 24 hours a day. One of 800 Mac's stores across Canada, this location in- cludes a self- service Petro -Can gas bar. ( photo by Sharon Dietz ) French music and crafts highlight school's Carnaval de Colborne. The past two weeks have been very busy at Colborne Central School. On Monday, Feb. 10 a kickoff assembly took place at the school so that the pupils would be prepared for Spirit Week. Spirit week was designed to get the children ready for, the Carnaval de Colborne which is scheduled for the week of Feb. 17-21. On Wednesday, Feb. 12 the pupils dressed up in their French Canadian best. Two classes, Grade 5 and Grade 7 had' 100 per- cent participation in the spirit activity. On Thursday, Feb. 13, the school public speaking contest was held and' winners were decided to represent Colborne at the Goderich Legion on Sunday Feb. 23 at 1:30 p.m. Senior winners included Pam Armstrong and Paula Vanderburgh. The Junior win- ners were Leanne Storey 'and Regan Milian. On Valentine's Day the older pupils entertained the primary pupils at a Valen- tine's dance. This week celebrates the Carnaval de Col- borne. On Monday there was an assembly at lunch hour to organize the 16 teams.'Each team included at least one pupil from each grade. On Tuesday, the children were involved in several activities including snow sculpture, square dance, French music, French cook- ing, -French crafts and language activities. Tomorrow, Thursday the entire school is hoping to take part in Winter Activities in- cluding cross country skiing, downhill ski- ing, tobogganing,, snowshoeing, and a horse drawm sleigh ride. Thanks to the coopera- tion of Don Sowerby and Mr. and Mrs. Don Feagan. On Friday the children will compete in winter games that have been organized by the Grade 7 pupils: Games will include: cooperative ski relay, snowshoe race, tug a war, give away relay, two dogs and a bone, bean sack race, and an obstacle course. The Hug and then made up their own stories about what they liked to hug. Each student decorated a Valentine paper bag and exchanged valentines on Friday. Mrs. Bi indley sent Valentine cupcakes for everyone. They were delicious! A Valen- tine's dance ended the celebrations! Grade 1 at Colborne has been writing books about friends and friendship. They are all working a little harder this month to be a "friendno everyone! They made pop-up Valentine cards for mom and dad this week and can hardly wait for the Valentine dance. Grade 5 will begin a Science Unit on'elec- tricity. They've set up a "What's It" corner, with articles donated by the Goderich Public Utilities. The pupa will try to guess the use of each article.
