Two of. the Mary -Lynn Telford Dancers, Robin Wark and Kim Bruinsma entertained with their Scottish dancing while Mary - Lynn explained the girls' dance routines to the audience. To add further to the Scottish theme Piper Ron Barnett favored us with a selection of numbers from his bagpipes and followed with a brief but informative talk •on the history of bagpiping and now he secured his own insument. The inspirational speaker, .Laura Pogson shared with- the ladies how the Lord helped • her deal with her son's severe problems with food allergies. Being a professional person herself and dealing with children through teaching and related hospital work through seminars and Various workshops, Laura shared positively how we all have burdens and only through prayers and God's guidance can we overcome crisis trium- phantly in our lives! The next meeting will be held on Tuesday,. Feb. 25 at Saltford Valley Hall at 7:30 p.m. All ladies in the area are invited to attend. Reservations are necessary. Call 524-4166. Moffatt and Powell introduces Dataquote Moffatt and Powell, an area building materials retailer is now able to offer its customers a unique, new service.People who are thinking of building a home, may now bring their drawings or blueprints to Moffatt and Powell's store and in less than ' one hour will be supplied with a complete list of the materials required to complete the home. The service is designed to help both con- tractors and do-it-yourselfers who wish to build. Moffatt and Powell is able to provide this service because of a unique new product called the Dataquote. The Dataquote solves a problem for both the home builder and the building materials retailer. The home builder typically :wants to know right away what his costs are going to be and he often finds it inconvenient to wait in some eases two weeks for his bill of materials. The building materials retailer can now do in less than one hour a job that previously took up to eight hours. The job of doing takeoffs is so , costly for building materials retailers to do that many have stopped doing them altogether. Says Keith Moffatt, President, • "We researched the housing starts in the coun- ties where we have our seven stores, and we found' that almost 50 percent of the honks are built by individuals rather than contrac- tors. Most people today don't actually get their hands dirty when they build their homes. In reality, what they do is manage the project. We believe this customer is looking for more than just the lowest price on the commodities. Our research shows he is looking for advice on everything from site selection to new products and in many cases he wants us to recommend a contractor." Powell, "Our contractors are interested in the fact that they don't have to do takeoffs themselvesany more. Plus, now we can tell them to drop off their plans in the morning And come back at lunch with a list of Materials." Moffatt and Powell have purchased six of the Dataquote comOuter • systems from Dyonix Glreentree Technologies Inc., the Canadian developer of the system. As part Of Moffatt and Powell's agreement with Dyonix Greentree, Moffatt and Powell ob- tained the right to temporarily be the only building materials retailer to have thetiata- quote in certain of its local markets. ; Dyonix Greentree is a young company, having been in business for just two years, however-, in that time the cPmpany has sold over 60 Dataquote workstations. "We think of ourselves as a lumber company, not a computer. company', sayAlbert Plant, President of Dyonix Greentree. "From day one, our goal has been to provide technological splutions to the building materials retailer. He is our only customer so we know him very well". Plant, who knows a few things about building material retailing himself, 'having been the President of Canada's 'largest building materials retailer, Beaver Lumber, says, " We see the Dataquote in the same light as the banks saw banking machines a number of years ago. All the banks had the opportunity to be the first on the block to have one. Only one bank took that first giant step and in- novated. Today, as consumers, we have come to expect these, services as standard banking practices. Well, with the Data - quote, we are at the stage where we are identifying those innovative building materials retailers across the country. It is these organizations that make up our ustomer base. We look for attitude.
