project costs and first mortgage financing at market
interest rates.

Hawkins rink wins annual hospital spiel
Curling activities at the Maitland have
reached a fever pitch in the past few
weeks, with bonspiels, playdowns and club
functions.
Two weekends ago we were host to nine
teams in the Foresters playdowns, whieh
was won by representatives from our own
club. Last weekend the annual A.M. & G.
Hospital spiel was held, in which 14 teams
competed.
Ron "Blood Slide" Klages and his team
of Jerry Riseborough, G.ary_Davis and Col-
een McGuire won the a.m. draw, while
Jim "Bionic Arm" Hawkins and his wife,
Barb teamed up with Rob Riehl and
Marika Howard to take the 11 a.m. draw.
In a two -end play-off to decide the over-
all winner, Hawkins came out on top and
took home the trophy.
HIGH SCHOOL.
Last Wednesday, five boy and four girl
teams from Huron County competed in the
school playdowns to determine the Huron -
Perth representatives.
The girls winners were the Jane Dickson
team from F.E. Madill in Wingham, and
Kara Van Den Nucker and her team from
Seaforth.
Representing the boys will be Scott
Townsend and his team from Central
Huron Secondary School in Clinton.
FAMILY CURLING:
In the Sunday afternoon games, The
Rick Brown Family played to a tie with the
Zolob's. The Team of John, Andy and Jody
® George Sutton and his GDCI number 1
ON THE
ROCKS
at the Maitland
Orr and Jason Garrett defeated The Sutton
and the Bill Brown family 5-2.
Jack MacKinnon and his family team
were tied coming home against the Gar-
rett family, but Jack held the hanuner and
won it 3-2. .
The Family Bonspiel which is scheduled
for Sunday, March 9 has openings for more
teams. If you would be interested, see the
sign posted .down at the club. There are
some nice prizes and the day should be a
fun time for everyone!
THURSDAY NIGHT INDUSTRIAL
Little has changed in the standings after
last week's play in the Industrial league,
with the Foresters still unbeaten, and the
Viking Vets still in second place with only
one loss.
Dan Durst and his Veterans defeated the
Legion team in a close 8-7 game, while the
Foresters had a hot hand 'in an 8-1 victory
over Mark rischer's Sifto Salt team.
Local 1863 handed the GDCI Students a
7-2 lesson, while the Elementary teachers
under Floyd Herman dealt with their
secondary school counterparts in a 9-3
thrashing.
team got off to a good start`by taking four
in the first end from Doug Mackey's V & G
team, then kept building up the score until
it was 13-0 coming home. Kathy Hamilton,
the V & G vice was head to remark:
"Well, at least we have the hammer com-
ing home! " It helped, because they scored
their only point in the 13-1 loss.
The Health Unit had to import Ed
Chilton to help out their squad, but it didn't
seem to matter as they dropped a six to
three decision to Charlie Crawford and his
Port Albert Ice Cubes. There were two
blank ends in that game!
There were some no-shows for the AM &
G and Lady Golfers, so that game was
postponed, but in the last game of the even-
ing, Jeff Harrison pulled out a very close 5-
4 squeaker over Bernice Moore and her
Lady Forester team.
PEPSI JUNIOR MIXED,
This weekend the Maitland curling club
will be hosting the Ontario Curling
Association's Zone playdowns for the
under -21 crowd.
Nine teams from this zone will be vying
for two spots in the regional finals. The
Goderich team will be made up of one
former Provincial finalist in the Junior
Men's Pepsi, Mark Jeffrey, who has his
sister Tanya as vice, Mike Collins as se-
cond, and Katherine Murphy as lead.
The•conipctition runs over Saturday and
Sunday.
Vikings, Rams battle for first place
BY TD
The GDCI Senior Vikings ,kept their
unbeaten Huron -Perth Conference basket-
ball record intact here last Tuesday with a
convincing 73-45 win over the Stratford
Northwestern Huskies.
The victory was the Vikings' eighth in
their nine game schedule. 'Their only re-
maining game 'before playoffs saw them
up against the Stratford Central Rarins
Tuesday in Stratford. The Rams went into
that game with a record of seven wins and
one loss. A Ram victory would result in a
three way tie for first place among the Vik-
ings, Rams and the South -Huron Panthers.
A Viking victory would clinch first place
for Goderich, with an undefeated season
and home court advantage in the playoffs
Todd Graham and Dave Almasi led all
scorers in thegamewith Northwestern
with 22 points apiece.. Bob Barwick, the
Vikings slick ball -handling guard, chipped
in with 13 points.,Darryl'Black and Travis

The chess club members were involved
in several interesting games at the last
meeting. Doug Brindley and Barry Page
played a particularly aggressive game,
which contained all the elements of
strategy, offence and defence. Barry had a
tight hold on the situation, but Doug
managed- to slip through and win, with a
.powerful combination.
Barry also pits his wits .against John
Crawford and Walter Gottschalk; the lat-
ter two scoring victories: John played
Mark Maurer in a game which saw much
manoeuvering of rooks and queens. Even-
tually, Mark took the game. Mike Cox and
Eric Hallam played one game apiece.
Chess club members are reminded that
the official playoffs begin on March 19, and
you must have 20 games in the standings to
