win battle against
CKNX Tryhards

Hockey Hobos handle Tryhards. The
Goderich Minor Hockey Association was
the real winner in a fun exhibition hockey
game at the Goderich Memorial Com-
munity Centre Saturday as the CKNX
Tryhards battled against the minor hockey
coaches. While the numbers on the
scoreboard may have indicated the
coaches won the game by a 7-1 score, the
Tryhards scored a touchdown late in the
game Lu tie the feu e. The game was punc-
tuated with the use of several questionable
hockey techniques on the part of both
teams and hobo referees, Terry Miller and
Brian Hoy. Hoy eventually got a pie in the
face for his efforts. In the above photo,
Miller drops the puck for a faceoff while
the coaches buzz around the net during a
scoring opportunity in the photo below.

Junior Vikings win tournament
championship over Parkhill team

The GDCI Junior Vikings continue to win
• basketball games. Here last Tuesday, the
Vikings won an exciting 57-54 win over the
Stratford Northwestern Huskies and on the
weekend the. Vikings won the champion-
ship of the North Middlesex Junior Boys'
Tournament, defeating the host Parkhill
team 71-59 in the final.
The victory over Stratford Northwestern
was the Vikings seventh without a defeat
in Huron -Perth Conference play, but it was •
not an easy victory. The Vikings had to
overcome an 11 point third quarter deficit
to win.
Scott Garrow led the Vikings with 19
points. Mike Bush added 16 and Byron
Bowman chipped in with 14 points. Sean
Wilson had six points and Andrew
MacAdam had two.
The Vikings •led. 15-14 after. • the first
quarter and 30-29 at halftime, but fell
behind in the third quarter before
outscoring the Huskies 18-10 in the fourth
quarter.
Bob Willis, with 14 points, was the
Huskies' top scorer.,
The Vikings played their final' league
game Tuesday in Stratford against' the
also undefeated Central Rams and will
play at home next Thursday in semi-final
playoff action.
In the North Middlesex tournament,, the
Vikings defeated Strathroy 64119 in teir
first round game and got by St. Thomas,
St. Joseph's in the semi-final before
beating Parkhill by 12 points in the final.
' Against Strathroy, Byron Bowman, with
16 points,' and Mike Bush, with 15, led the
attack. Scott Darrow added 12, Sean
Wilson had eight, . Jim Laithwaite .and

The Vikings had expected a tough game
based on an earlier two point victory over
the Strathroy team, but the Vikings had an
easy time of it.
In the semi-final game, the Vikings
made it easy on themselves by jumping off
to an 18-5'first quarter lead. for the

Vikings, hooping 18 points, Mike Bush,
with 15, and Sean Wilson, with 10, were the
other Vikings in double figures.
The final with Parkhill was tied 32-32 at
halftime.
Big Byron Bowman was' a one-man
wrecking crew in the third quarter, going
to the hoop for 12 of his 25 points. Mike
Bush had 17 points, Sean Wilson canned 14
and Scott Garrow had 11. ,
