ford Northwestern Huskies here last Tues-
day, losing 46-45.

Alcock, with 12, and Meng Troeung with 10
points.

ing all the Huron -Perth Midget teams.
The Goderich Legion Midgets went up
against Mooretown in OMHA Playoffs last
Thursday and Saturday. In Game One they
came up short, losing 10-5 and in Game
Two they lost 7-3.
Game One was much closer than it
sounds as it was a see -saw affair until
Goderich took an untimely, five-minute
penalty late in the gain when they were
trailing by one. The potent Mooretown
powerplay had a long time to work and
scored four goals. Mooretown scored eight
powerplay goals during the game.
Mooretown opened the scoring at 5:27.
Goderich tied it up halfway through the
period on a goal by Rud Nurse assisted by
Bruce Culbert. Mooretown again went
ahead buLthe game was tied at two when
Ian MacKinnon rushed up ice and scored.
Goderich scored again on a booming shot
from Matt Wilkinson. But again
Mooretown scored twice more to take the
lead and it held until Richard Boddy
scored a nice goal assisted from Nurse to
end the second period all tied up at four.
Goderich scored first in the third period
when Mark Cauchi took a pass from Dave
Duncan and scored to take the Lead.
Mooretown came back however to tie and
then go ahead at the mid -point of the
period. The game continued to be a tight,
close -checking game until Mooretown
blew it open during the five rninute
powerplay. Goalie Jay Williamson played
a solid game in net as usual.
In Game Two ori Saturday, Goderich
went in with a different approach of taking
everything that the intimidating
Mooretown team was going to give out.
They did - but only for the first period.
The Midgets took a two -goat lead in the
first period from Ryan Kelly assisted by
Cauchi and Nurse; and on a good •
unassisted effort from Tom Bean. .
Mooretown, although being outplayed,
came back with two goals of their own, one
questionable, to tie the game.
In the second the chippy play of
Mooretown finally got to Goderich and this
was the beginning of the endas they scored
seven unanswered goals in the second and
third periods. Rod Nurse took a pass from
Matt Wilkinson in his own end, skated
through the Mooretown defence to finish
the scoring in the gale.
Penalties again cost Goderich as
Mooretown scored three times on the
powerplay. Gord Maclnnis played a strong
game in net despite the score as many of
the goals came from sloppy play in the
defensive end.
The effect from the Mooretown style of
play and crowd was too much for the team ,
as they could not get it going.
Two rescheduled regular season games.
against Lucan are tentatively planned for
this weekend. The Midgets hope to come
back from these defeats to play strong in
the Shamrock League Playoff on February
22.

opening round best -of -three series 2-0.
Mooretown led 1-0 after the first period
and score could have been much higher
had it not been for the goalten9iing of Bob
Lumley who mad many fine saves.
The visitors upped their lead to 3-0 in the
second period before the Lions caught. fire,
late in the period. Two goals by Andre
Cauchi in the last two minutes of the period , well.

put the Lions right back in the garne
heading into the final period. Shawn Talbot
drew an assist on the second Cauchi goal.
With the Lions playing shorthanded,
Kevin Moss tied the game with a low shot
from the point with Andre Cauchi
assisting. Shortly after this, goal, the Lions
drew another ,penalty and Mooretown
capitalized on the two-man advantage to
score the winning goal.
Mooretown clung to'itr 4-3 lead until the
final seconds of the game when. the fifth
goal was scored.
If the Lions can show this kind of effort
and determination in Young Canada Week
this year, they will represent the town
