A grant of $1000 was awarded to the
Auburn Lions Club to help with extra
maintenance to its ball park and completion
of the refreshment booth by West Wawanosh
Township council at its Feb. 4 meeting.
Bill Robinson, who attended council
representing the Lions Club, was seeking
financial -assistance from the surrounding
municipalities.
Council will also participate with the
village of Lucknow with a needs study for
low rental housing in the area.
But, council decided it will not pay more
than 19 per cent of the operating costs of the
Lucknow arena after Lucknow council ask-
ed for a review of the percentage breakdown
of the arena costs.
Under the condition
ondtion that the
be West
Wawanosh road
charge, council agreed to contribute $1500
for road construction in 1986 on the boun-
dary road between West-Wawanosh and Col-
borne.
The road superintendent was authorized
to buy six 12 -ply grader tires from Willits
Tire Service at the quoted price of $383 each.
Two quotations were obtained by council
from Willits Tire Service, Lucknow and
MacArthur Tire Service, Owen Sound.
Council also authorized the building in-
spector to issue a permit to Helm Welding
Limited for a fabricating building.

School trustees will go to Vancouver
By Stephanie Levesque
The Stratford architectural firm of Kyles,
'Garratt and Marklevitzwill continue as the
consulting architects for the Huron County
board of education, for the next 18 months.
The. firm has been acting in this position
for as long as trustee John Elliott has been
on the board, about 12 years, . and he
wondered why the .firm was only to get an •
18 -month renewal period, rather than the
full term of this board which is three years.
Management committere chairman Tony
McQuail told the Feb. 3 meeting of the
school board that a local architectural firm
had expressed an interest in liecoming the
consulting architect. McQuail said the short
time frame for choosing hn architect made
it impossible for the local firm to make . a
presentation.
The chairman said his committee only
had one month to look for an architect and
• besides the Stratford firm, there was only
the one local firm expressing interest. Mc -
Quail said the 18 -month renewal period
would give the local firm a chance to com-
pete.
Both Elliott and trustee Joan Van den
Broeck suggested that by not renewing the
Stratford firm fog three years, the 'board is
"casting aspersions" on its reputation.
McQuail said he has "no strong or serious
reservations" about the Stratford firm. He
would just like a local firm to have a chance
to compete.
The management commitee chairman
said the architectural firm doesn't receive a
retaining fee, but does receive a certain
percentage of every project.

registration and meals for the trustees
alone, -
A spokesman for the board said airflight
is $268 for a round trip and accommoda-
tion, booked through the congress, is at $76
for a double room per night.
Director of education Robert Allan may
also attend.
The Huron -Perth Roman Catholic
separate school board, considered sending
some trustees, but director William
Eckert said the cost deterred the board
members. It is not yet known if any ad- .
ministrative staff will be going to the con-
gress.
