then scored on a backhand shot after tak-
ing a pass from Kevin Lee. Rick Shakes
also assisted on the play.
Rob Willis got the tying goal eaily in the
third period, deflecting a shot past Sailor
goalie Randy Gaynor.
The Sailors were impressive in their win
over Walkerton. The Blackhawks led 2 - 1
after the first period, the teams were tied 3
- 3 after two periods and -the goal -hungry
Sailors outscored the visitors 5- 3 in a wild
final period.
John ThomPson, the Sailors' leading
scorer, had three goals for Goderich. Rick
Shakes added a pair and Brad Armstrong,
Chris Sideris and David Gallow had
singles.
The Sailors gave no quarter to the fast -
skating Blackhawks, - finishing their
checks consistently and hustling both
ways. The defence, led by Daryl Madge,
was strong and the offence passed the puck
crisply. Brad Armstrong and John Thomp-

especially against power play situations.
The Sailors' victory over Walkerton
gives them at least one win against every
team in the league except the first place
Hanover Barons.
The Sailors had hoped fo start the
playoffs here Friday but last Saturday's
bad weather forced a postponement of
their regularly scheduled game in Port
Elgin and pushed back the beginning of
their playoff series with the Bears.

BY TD
The Goderich Sailors served notice they
are ready for the O.H.A. Junior 'C'
playoffs with a pair of strong perfor-
mances here on the weekend.
Friday, the Sanas played to a 3 - 3 tie
with the Wingham Jokers in a game they
woulci have won had it not been for the
strong goaltending of the Jokers' Mitch
Braun. Sunday, the Sailors played one of
their best games of the year in defeating
the third place Walkerton Blackhawks, 8 -
6.
Against Walkerton, the Sailors played a
tough, physical game defensively, got
good goaltending from Doug Dickson, and
moved the puck well offensively. It was the
kind of hockey that could make the Sailors
a contender in their upcoming best -of -five
quarter final playoff series with the Port
Elgin Bears.
The Sailors have one more regular
season game to play Friday against the
Bears in Paisley and then the same two
teams will square off in playoff action.
Firm dates have not been set, but it is like-
ly the first game will be in Port Elgin Sun-
day, with the second game here next Tues-
day, February 11. Definite date § and times
will be advertised as soon as the details
are known. Good crowds attended both
weekend games and the improved play of
the Sailors should have the fans turning
out in large numbers for the playoffs.

The game with Wingham here Friday
was close all the way, with the teams tied 1
- 1 after one period and the Sailors on top 3 -
2 after two periods. The Jokers got the only
goal of the third period to salvage the tie.
