One of the highlights of the event was an address by out -going president,' Muriel Coultes, of Brussels, on her recent visit to Cuernevaca, Mexico. She told the life stories of several women there, and of their desperate living conditions, quoting two relevant, passages from Ecclesiastes: "What does man gain by all the toil at which he'toils under the sun?" and, `Behold, the tears of the oppressed, and they had no one to comfort them! On the side of their op- pressors there was power!" It was agreed that the offering for ,the day be divided equally between the Mission and Service, fitful the World Development and Relief Funds of the United Church. Reports of the year's work were presented in the fort of a Bible study on the day's theme:., "What does the Lord require of me?" The appearance of the prophet Micah, portrayed by Yvonne Vanslyke of Seaforth, to interpret his words and message allowed the Committee Chairpersons to explain the relevance of their activities in doing justice, loving mercy and walking humbly with God. The ladies of her home church gave Ahna Langford of Exeter, a ,corsage to mark the occasion of her election as the new presi- dent. Later, a Life Membership Pin and Cer- ti tificate were, presented to Muriel Coultes, of Brussels, in appreciation of her work, en- thusiasm, and dedication during her two years as president. Since the London Conference meeting of the United Church Women will be held in Stratford from April 13 -15, it was decided to withdraw the usual April Special Event for this year only so that as many women as possible might attend the Conference. Other events planned for the year will include Westminster Weekend, May 30 - June 1, and Alma College for Women, August 8 -11. A complete slate of officers for the coming year was presented by Grace Pym, of Cen- tralia, and elections were conducted by the president of London Conference United Church Women, • Shirley Smith of St. , Thomas.
