Leanne } Parents learn about the new credit system for students In' MICHELLE GLENN AND HEIDI ZOETHOUT On Monday, Jan. 14 the Grade eight students with their parents met with some high school teachers, Mr. Murphy and Mr. MacLennan. This meeting was to explain the new credit sytem. There will be another Grade 8 parent night on Monday, Jan. 20 at the high school. This will provide an opportunity to meet with some of the teachers to discuss the course guidelines. On Thursday, Jan. 15 Mr. MacLennan held a coffee time from 10:30 a.m. to noon. Mrs. Allen's Grade 7's are reading a novel called "Rocky Mountain Monster". They are also doing a project on the monster of their choice. We would like to welcome Miss Rankin who is an exchange teacher from Australia. Miss Rankin exchanged with, Miss Braid who is presently teaching in Australia. The class thinks the Car- dinal is.one of the prettier birds! Judy Jewitt's Grade 3 has started a Snow Ice unit. They are watching Jenean Todd's tulip grow. This is the one given to Jenean when all the primary students received one from the Royal Canadian Legion last fall. Lois Tebbutt's Grade 3 and Grade 4 began a new program of . individualized spelling - They are hoping that . the students will be able to assimilate their spelling with the written language more readily after this program. Mrs. Cameron's Kindergarten class is talking about their families - they have painted a family picture and made a graph. On Wednesday they made snow flake peo- ple. Judy Jewitt's Grade 2' began an Eskimo unit. They are learning about homes? games, travel, language and food of the Inuit people. They are also studying animal life in the Arctic., Sheila Clarke's Grade 2 - The Spaceship Alphabet, is constructing a.solar system in their room. They have a slight problem with Jupiter, though. The giantplanet with the huge red spot keeps falling out of the sky! They also did their first research project this week. They worked in teams and found three facts about each planet. Colborne School Grade 3 class works on unicorns for reading The Grade 3 Class at Colborne School is working on unicorn's for reading. They have many activity cards to work on. Topics such as caring, trying, unicorn transfer, unicorn button and unicorn horns are worked on each day. There are 11 dif- ferent activity cards to work on.
