Club enjoyed a
successful year in 85

The Goderich Lions Club, representing
85 members, enjoyed a rather successful
year in 1985.
Who are the Lions and what do they do?
Members of the one of world's most active
and largest service clubs', Lions are men
who give something back to the communi-
ty in the form of time, humanitarian ser-
vice and friendship. Both the Lions and.
Lioness Clubs need men and women like
you to support its ventures.
In the past year, the club welcomed new
members Ed Laithwaite, Bob McCormick,
George Zolob, Ron Kay, Doug Eines, Al
Beange, Brian Dent, Ed Hagle, George
Hiles, Ted Ingham, Don Larder, Bob Mor-
ris and Wayhe Steward. During the year,
past presidents Guy Emerson and Paul
Rivers died.
The club raises money in various ways.
It stages regular bingoes at the arena and
on .Bluewater Cable Television, Channel
12, a breakfast and beef barbeque on the
July long weekend, Nevada Club ticket
sales, CN•IB drive, Easter Seal Drive,
Easter bunny sales and the walk-a-dog-a-
thon.
Money raised from these events is used
to support community projects. Some of
the beneficiaries include; Goderich Minor
Hockey and ringette, Lions' free skate,
Goderich Music Boosters, Lady Diana
Nursery School, Goderich Figure Skating
Club, the .club provides bursaries and
scholarships, public speaking awards,
Lions' senior citizen bus, the installation of
equipment at Lions Harbur Park, a new
freezer for Alexandra Marine and General
Hospital, the CNIB leader dog school,
Easter Seals, diabetic society, Homestead
Group Home, St. John's Ambulance,
Foster Parents, Grand Valley Tornado
Relief Fund, Oxfam, Young Canada Week
peewee hockey tournament and others.
The club is planning a regional conven-
tion in Goderich in•• 1987. It will attract
many visitors to town.
The Goderich club strives to, uphold the
Lions' Club motto, "We serve."
