The appeal letters delivered to Goderich homes were prepared by Mary Lytut Telford, Cowrie Connelly, Mary Anne Yates, Ellen Connelly, campaign chairperson, Sue Gower, Pat Spence and Shirley Beckley. (photo by Susan Handed - mark) • March of Dimes campaign begins Goderich's 1986 Ability 1" and Campaign for the Ontario. March of Dimes will begin Monday, Jan. 20. This year the goal of the campaign is $4000. Ellen Connelly, Campaign' Chairper- son said, "Last year's result was (beyond our expectations). This year we are confi- dent that with community support we can. achieve our goal." This is Ellen's thirteenth year heading the campaign and is seen as the driving force behind the enthusiastic group of six volunteers includjng Sue Gower, Shirley Buechler, Connie Connelly, Mary Aa►n hates, INA Spence and Mary Lyn 'Telford, that will be preparing the appeal letters to be' delivered to homes in Goderich. Funds raised go toward services for physically disabled adults In Ontario. Approximately one in. 10 adults in Ontario are physically disabled. The Ontario March of Dimes helps physically disabled adults develop their abilities through n variety of services. They provide assistive devices such as wheelchairs, ramps and electronic aids; operate summer,camps; and leave a microcomputer program for both voca- tional training and education. The March of Dienes provides vocational rehabilitation, medical clinics and consulting and informa- tional services. The Ontario March of Dimes strives to develop the ability in disabled adults. When you receive an appeal letter in your mail ,please give as generously as you are able. We all benefit. .Town employees will negotiate raises Any town employee who feels he is per- forming duties other than those in his job description will have a chance to be reviewed and renegotiate his wages at an administration and ,personnel committee meeting on Jan. 23. "Various employees are looking for in- creases because they feel .their jobs have. changed. We'd like to know how they've changed to assist us in evaluating their wages," said Conn. Jim Searls said he thought only department heads, not employees should be defining job descriptions. "It's peculiar where an employee describes what he ought to do. Maybe he should be told what to do.," agreed Coun. Glen Carey but he agreed with the process when he learned the committee had' received correspondence from several employees about their job responsibilities. . "Sortie. employees may feel they're do- ing duties over and above what they were hired to db. I think it's a good route," said Mayor Eileen Palmer. On Jan. 23, custodians are scheduled to meet with the committee at 8 a.m., clerical staff is scheduled for 8:30 a.m., recreation .staff at 9 a.m., pollution control staff at 9:30 a.m., outside employees at 10 a.m. and department heads at 10:30 a.m. Other than individual • adjustments, employees will be given an inflationary in- crease in the range of three to five per cent. Contract renewed. for Promoter" After a closed session and a recorded vote, Goderichcouncil agreed to renew for one year the contract of Tourist-Industriai Promoter, Robin Stuart at its Jan. 20 meeting. • Stuart made a presentation at the ad rhinistration and personnel committee meeting on Jan. 16 where it was "felt he should be given an opportunity to work with a committee for another year under contract." The cor'rutvttee decided to set up. a tourist committee to promote the municipality along with the Promoter. - Stuart said he would continue to research Tiger Dunlop Days, a fall fair and a number of other items. His wages will be decided at the commit- tee's up -coming deliberations with municipal employees. Voting "yea" to extend Stuart's contract were Mayor Eileen Palmer, Coun. Jim Searls, Coun.
