Derek Ruthig had 12 points and Paul
Horeriburg had 10 for the Salukis.
The Vikings led 32-28 at half time and
then used the press in the second half to
'force errors and extend their lead to 53-32
after three quarters.
Thursday, the Vikings play in Clinton.
They have exhibition games lined up in
Strathroy Friday and with two Sarnia
schools Saturday.

The GDCI senior Vikings defeated the
St. Marys' Salukis 74-48 in Huron Perth
Conference boys' basketball action
Thursday in St. Marys.
The victory was the third in three league
games for coach Lynn. Meyers' Vikings.
Todd Graham had 18 points for the Vik-
ings and Dave Almasi had 16. Bob Barwick
added 10 points and Darryl Black hit for
nine. Juergen Schulz and John Empson
each had eight points for the Vikings.

The GDCI junior Vikings remained
undefeated in Huron Perth Conference
-boys' basketball by defeating the St:
Marys' Salukis 70-46 Thursday in St.
Marys.
• The Vikings were obviously the better
team. They led throughout the game and
the margin would have been larger except
for the Vikings' poor 13 for 42 from the foul
line.
Mike Bush and Byron Bowman took the
ball to 'the hoop _ well, scoring 19 and 18
points respectively, Sean Wilson had 10
points, Scott Garrow had nine and Kevin
Haasnoot had seven points. Andrew
MacAdam added two and Derek Chandler
and Calvin Knight had one point each.
Craig Hawkins was the ..game's top
scorer, getting 20 points for the Salukis.
Coach Myles Murdock's Vikings who are
3-0 in league play, go to Clinton Thursday
for their next league game. Friday, they
will play on exhibition game in Strathroy
and Saturday they will play in Sarnia.
Midget boys defeat St. Marys
The (DCI midget boys' basketball team
defeated St. Marys 43-27 Thursday in St.
Marys. .
Greg Alcock was the Vikings top scorer
with 14 points. Tom Taylor had 11 points
anT Ken Webb had nine. Shawn Corrie,
who played a strong defensive game; had
three points tor the winner, Marty
Russello, Ron Plasschaert and Greg
DeWinter had. two points each for
Goderich.
Bill Taylor was St. Marys' best with 10

" The Goderich Sailors and Wingham Jokers may be the last two teams in the OHA Central
Junior C standings, but they played.a very entertaining hockey game here last Friday night.
The Sailors won 7-6 in a game featuring end-to-end action and spirited play by both teams.
The victory was the eighth against 16 losses for the Sailors while. the Jokers have won only
once in 23 games so far.
The score was tied 3-3 after the first period, and the Sailors led 6-5 'going into the third
period. Wingham tied the score at 6-6 six minutes into the period, but Grant Garrow scored
the winning goal for the Sailors with 10 minutes remaining in the game.
In the first period Jamie Robinson scored two goals for Wingham and Jamie McPherson
got one. Sailor replies came from Chris Sideris, assisted by Shawn Larder and John
Grahani; Kevin Lee assisted by Rick Sharkes and Brad Armstrong and John Thompson,
assisted by Dave Gallow and Todd Jeffrey.
Thompson got his second goal of the game deflecting in a shot from the point by Grant
Garrow, Dave Gallow also assistedon th&play at, the 1:16 mark of the second period. Rick
Sharkes then scored two quick goals for the Sailors, both times assisted by Grant (arrow
and Kevin Lee.
Paul Tolton and Paul Robinson scored second period goals for the Jokers.
Dave Montgomery tied the score, beating Randy Gaynor in the Sailors' net with a hard
drive early in the third period, but then Carrow got the winner, deking a Wingham
defenceman and beating Joker goalie McClement with a wrist shot. John Graham was
credited with an assist on the winning goal.
Garrow, ho was the star -of the game for the"'Sailors, will be lost to his team for at least
four games wing game misconduct and gross misconduct penalties he received late in
the'third period or arguing with the referee.
The Sailors pl their next game Friday night in Kincardine. The Sailors next home game
is Friday January 31 when the Jokers will return for a rematch.
League scoring statistics show the Sailors' John Thompson with 12 goals and 31 assists for
43 points as of January 2, good enough for sixth place in the league's leading scorers.
Defenceman Daryl Madge and rightwinger Pete Willems are next in team scoring with 31
and 30 points. Sailors' defenceman Todd Jeffrey leads the league in penalties with 101
minutes in 16 games played.
