St Marys rink wins district
On January 8th at the Maitland Country
Club the Southern Ontario Ladies Curling
Association held its Senior Ladies District
3 Playdowns. Goderich entered one team
skipped by Nancy Nephew with Bernice
Moore vice -skip, Joan Hibbert, second,
and Kay Duncan lead.
The first draw saw Goderich trounce
Vanastra 14-2 and St. Marys beat Ripley 8-
3.
In the second draw the tables were turn-
ed as St. Marys beat out Goderich 12- 6 and
Vanastra won 11-5 over Ripley. The 3rd
draw proved exciting with Vanastra pitted
against Goderich. In the end Doris
Cantelon, skip of the Vanastra team was
forced to draw to the eight foot with her
final rock to win. Final score was 9-8 for
Vanastra. The 4th draw ended with
Vanastra winning over St. Marys 13-3.
The final draw had a large audience as
St. Marys and Vanastra battled for vic-
tory. Vanastra was up two corning home
when the St. Marys skip, Phyllis Sheldon
with her final rock drew to the 4 -foot. Final
score was St. Marys 9 Vanastra 8. Con-
gratulations to the St. Marys team of
Phyllis. Sheldon skip, Jessica Shane vice,
Marguerite . Crosthwaste ' second, and
Gwen Prout, lead. Also a special mention
for the Vanastra team of Doris Cantelon
skip, Joyce Wilson vice, Helga Veenstra
lead on their excellent sportmanship.
The winner advances to the Southern On-
tario Finals in Sarnia Jan. 20-23.

Oldtimers, Angels split league. game
The Oldtimers and Auleen's Angels split
the points with the Angels coming away
with four points. They had good games
rolled by Grace Mugford 187, Auleen
Theriault 231 and Vicky Dineen 180, 197,
542 triple. The Oldtimers took three points
led by Melba Maillet 211, Sandy Fielder 252
'and Nancy White 225, 611 triple.
, The points were split between the
Blazers and the Marionettes: The Blazers
took four points and were led by Gladys
Nicholson 154, Jane Fuller.158 and Joyce
Hamilton 215, 244, 621 triple.' The Marionet-
tes came away with three points and good
games rolled by Ett Bradley 171, Alice
Mere 176, Betty Fisher 237. and "Marilyn
Bannister 241, 642 triple.
Audrey Brindley led Troubles Back to a
five point win over the No Names. Good
games rolled by Deb Stright 165, Mary
Chambers 181, Audrey Durnin 188 and
Audrey Brindley 218, 222, 243, 683 triple.
Rose Sheardown led the No Names to a two
point win and had help from June Rourke
156, Pauline Jacques 173, Donna Duncan
201 and Rose Sheardown 190, 462 triple,
hirl's Girls were bowling against 100
percent of their average and managed to
take five points. The "Girls" had high
games rolled by Joyce Pettus 183, Bev
Whetstone 219, .225, 604 triple, Dorothy
Bourdeau 290, 693 triple. Shirley Kennedy
270, 274, 706 triple.'

On Sun., Jan. 12 Little Bowl held the Zone Finals for the High -Low Doubles Tournament.
Coming in first were Janet Ruiniga and Kathy MacDonald with a plus of 113 pins. These two
bowlers will advance to the Provincial Finals in Barrie, Ontario, Feb. 1, 1986.
Sandy F1eliler'and"Nancy Robinson placed a close second with +110 pins. Third spot was
claimed by Helena Young and Janet Rumig, fourth were Dorothy Bourdeau and Donna Dun-
can and fifth were John Allen and Sheila Brownlee.
High Single games rolled were Jerry Ross 301, Bill Trantor 296, and Marj Moore 263, Janet
Rumig 261, Manfred Popernitsch 262, Shirley Smith. 258, Sheila Brownlee 258, John Allen
254, Jenny Langendoen 253, Dorothy Bourdeau 245, Steven Johnston 249 and Gary Black 245.
First session of 1986 season is
quiet for Goderich Chess Club
.,The first session of the Goderich Chess
Club for .1986 was very quiet with only
seven members present. Dennis Little
secured the greatest number of victories;
including two wins over Doug Brindley.
Doug, however also won two games.
Barry Page and Rob Nau battled head to
head in two very interesting games which
resulted in hard-won victories by Barry.
Walter Gotschalk was kept busy and split
two games with wick and Mark
Maurer. Eric Hallam and Mike Cox also
saw action during the evening:
New members are always Welcome to
play at the Goderich Chess Club, . which
meets every' Wednesday evening at 7:30 in
the Recreation Board Grandstand room.

for the Rolls Royce with a 603 triple.
Shirley Smith was top bowler for the Hot
Rods with' a 568 triple. For the Porsche's
Audrey Brindley was iugh bowler with a
500 triple and a 578 triple by Pat Bur-
roughs. Ev MacInnis was high for the
Ramblers With a 578 triple followed by
Joyce Hamilton with a 552.
The Hondas' Sheila Brownlee was high
bowjer with a 540 followed by Jean Ban-
nister with a 421. Helen Durnin bowled a
605 triple followed by Kay Glen with a 475.
Daisy Scott was high bowler for the
Mustangs with a 528 triple while Barb Pigg
bowled a, 227 single. Irene Sparks had a 532
triple. Susan Hiusser was high bowler for
her team with a 636 triple with Sharron
Henry bowling a 441 triple. Ilene Sillib was
high bowler for the Caddies with a 549. For
the Ponies Marion Millar was high bowler
with a 505 and followed by Elsa Fickert
with a 483;" For the Edsels high bowler was
Sharon Sanders with a 512 triple.

Grubs Group sneaked by the Goderich
Entertainers taking 16 out of a possible 30'
points. Tirn Gerrits led Grubs Group vic-
tory with ,a 702 triple.

-Huronia Hustlers defeated their op-

Huronia Hustlers with a 834 triple.
