Mclean rolls record 1029 triple
Thursday with a 410 single
It may not represent a personal best,‘but
Dick McLean's 1029 triple in league play
Thursday may stand as the house record
at Little Bowl for many years to come.
Bowling in the Thursday night men's
league, McLean rolled singles of 336, 283
and 410 for a phenomenal 1029 triple, the
highest ever recorded at the local lanes.
The triple eclipses the old Goderich league
standard of 1003 set by Jerry Rivett in
league play several years ago by 26 points.
That McLean would shatter the previous
record by 26 points offers testimony to the
man's skills which have produced
averages ranging from 236 in the Thursday
Men's League to 245 in the Monday Men's
League. He also anchors Little Bowl's
inter -town team.
His record performance began with four
straight strikes (he would record 28 strikes
in all) before he missed a three -pin in the
fifth frame. He added two more strikes
before settling for 15 points in the eighth
frame. He wrapped up the opening game,
with a straw lie Haat mina llalldt eaaeu Wuee
in the tenth for a 336 single.
He showed signs of a 300 plus perfor-
mance in the second game but three open
frames broke up seven strikes at inoppor-
tune times, resulting in a 283 single.
His third and final game captured the at-
tention of fellow bowlers who cheered his
near -perfect performance. McLean rack-
ed up an impressive string of eight con-
secutive strikes before narrowly missing a
headpin in the ninth frame and settling for
a spare. He finished off the record-setting,
game with three strikes in the tenth frame
for a 410 single.
While the 410 represents a personal high •
single game for Dick, last year he rolled a
1046 triple in inter -town competition in
Stratford.
The Hall of Fame at Little Bowl will
suitably document the record-setting per-
formance by McLean and considering that
only two bowlers have ever cracked the
1000 triple, Dick's 1029 may be secure for
many, many years.

Figure Skaters
pass tests
in December
December was a busy month for
members of the Goderich Figure Skating
Club as a number of skaters were pro-
moted and the club held its Christmas Par-
ty Dec. 18.
Parents and children enjoyed a family
skate waiting for Santa to arrive and later
the power skaters and dads played hockey.
The result of the game is still not known. A
club draw, for a. weekend at Wheels Inn,
Chatham, was won by Tim Glousher.
" During the month, Rick McLean advanc-
ed in power skating while Sarah Adamson,
Monica Schuett and Aletia Warr moved
from Beginners and Sue Ingham advanced.
from Elementary. Nicole Bodden, Susan
Potter and Marcia Salm advanced from
Basic Group.
Kelly Graham, Sally Mabon and Vicky
Rock were promoted from Novice III while
Connie Clifford, Kelly Graham and Becky
Scbuett moved from Novice IV.
Free Skate I was completed by Lisa
Adamson, Clifford, Schuett, Tara McKin-
non and Suzanne Schultz. Figure 1 was
passed by Adamson who passed Stroking I
along with Schuett. McKinnon and Schultz
pased Figure II.
An inter -club competition was held Dec.
15 in Clinton with a number of Goderich
skaters participating. The following
skaters passed dances; Julie Cook, Sally
Mabon and Angie Skelton passed the
Canasta while Tammy' Marshall passed
her foxtrot. Emma Hollingworth passed
both the American and The Rocker.
Dick McLean set the record straight at Little Bowl last week rolling a 1029 triple, the highest
score ever bowled in Goderich. McLean rolled singles of 336, 283 and 410 in setting the new
record. His previous best single was 401 in Stratford when he rolled a career high 1046 triple.
He hit for eight straight strikes Thursday before sparing in the ningth frame. (photo by

Cam Bogie's team of Tom, Betty and
Rodger Moore continued their winning
ways last Thursday night by pulling away
to an early lead and defeating Dave Cloet's
GDCI Teacher team 9 - 3. This dropped the
Teacher team into a seventh -place tie with
Local 1863 who dropped a close 6 - 4 game
to the Sifto Salt Evaporator team.
The Sifto team credited their win to the
bright new red caps they were sporting,
even though Mark Shaw still prefers to go
bareheaded!
The Legion team showed no mercy to the
under -staffed Elementary Teacher team,
defeating Roberta Machan in her first try
at skipping by a 13 - 2 score.
Dan Durst and his Viking Vets thought
they were going to ' have it easy with
Charlie . Crawford's Ice Cubes, since
Charlie had to fight his way through the
snow drifts to get to the rink. Charlie made
it close though and had a chance to tie the
game in the last end. But, Dan came
through with some clutch shots and won by
an 11- 6 score.
The Lady Foresters were stalled by the
weather and had to postpone their game
with the Hospital team.
Doug Mackey, skipping the Victoria and

got him into the Tankard Regional finals,
and whipped the Maitland Golfer girls 9 - 4.

to be within one point coming home.

on the final end, and the teachers walked
away with a 9 - 3 victory.
In the closest game of the night, John
Orr's Health Unit team made some tricky
shots and picked up a 7 - 5 victory over Jeff
Harrison's Super Shell squad.
