I am one of those angry people who live within a two-mile radius of where this year the road block seems to always be up. I have lived here for over. 22 years and witnessed worse conditions than this. The storm in 1971 kept the roads closed for a lit- tle over a week, but when the storm was over the ploughs worked round the clock un- til all roads were passable. I suggest that if the local department can- not hire people and equipment to remove the snow, then the government should take over the problem that we have. Has anyone ever heard of the Queen Elizabeth being closed between Hamilton and Toronto for four days? The problem of Hwy. 21 being closed regularly has only happened 'in the last two years. Perhaps if the province is riot capable of snow removal in Huron and Bruce We should all get winter subsidy to live on. Hourly paid country people have families to support and feed and cannot afford two to three weeks off without pay. Students also suffer as buses don't go when roads, are clos- ed. As well, mail carriers don't deliver, but possibly get paid as they at least reported to work to do their job. So equipment is a pro- blem even if Mr. Scott doesn't think so. LETTLFIS Regarding Constable John Marshall's statement about generally letting local traf- fic through could be true when he was on du- ty, but I have never this year had the chance to ask where I was going, just flagged to go Carlow way or return to Goderich or risk a fine and break the law. . In regards to the Sunday closing and reopening Monday at 2:30 p.m., I took pic- tures at noon and 5 p.m. on Sunday and also again on Monday at 8 a.m. from my front door and you could see for a one -mile radius. These pictures were of neighbour's homes; sideroads and also Hwy. 21 with a car at least 3,4 of a mile ahead which could be seen along with the barricade sign. On the other hand, we have too many peo- ple on the roads that think they know how to drive in snow. Carelessness is the word. Too many people don't take the time to let their car warm properly and use this tine to clean their car completely off, so you can see it as a vehicle on the road not just two sets of lights showing through the blowing snow. Snow removal is first class Dear editor, Our council members, Glen Carey and John Doherty, are out of order when they criticize the snow removal in Goderich. It seems as if these two councillors should be making constructive remarks and praise the work our town employees do instead of -criticizing where it is - certainly not war- ranted. I can't image either of these men up and going to work at 3 a.m. • An . apology from these two council Goderich has members to our hard working town employees would be the proper thing for them to do. Being a letter .carrier and having polled the other carriers as to their opinion of the streets in Goderich and, having talked to a lot of citizens in regards to this problem, it seems to be thewunannrous=opinion .oi„all,- concerned that an excellent job is being done. On behalf of the letter carriers and myself, we would like to take this opportuni- cidents. Many cars pass -in stormy weather, Speed is probably the fault of most ac - doing the legal 80 km per hour but you do not drive 80 in the snow and expect not to cause an accident. Passing- a plough is also not very wise, but I have followed the plough and went all the way to town doing 30 km an hour with six to eight cars behind me. You really couldn't take the chance of passing, afraid the Idiot coming the other way wouldn't have lights on. As it turned out we met no one and could have passed safely. An arrn wave .or an all clear sign from the operatgr.of the plough would have been ap- preciated that the road was clear, like the experienced truck drivers do. This could save tempers on all parties. What is wrong with using four way flashers. I had mine on and the only other person I met on the road with his on was the Q.P.P. car. I mentioned this to someone and they said ."Oh that scares me and I slow down„ I think there is a policeman or accident ahead" GOOD IDEA - If this slows you down, when you do come across a stranded vehicle, you will have time to stop before becoming another accident and causing our roads to be closed. Yours truly, Fed Up With The System carriers sa ty to thank the people of Goderich for the fine job they are doing in keeping their sidewalks clear so as to make our jobs as letter carriers easier. It is the opinion of all the letter c 1rriers, except the one who sits on Town Council, that the snow ren1oMal..in Goderich is first class. •M• • To Lary,Ken, Stan and all the employees manning the egtupment,'1Ceep'up the gold work and thanks to the Town Employees and Citizens of Goderich. Ronald Barker, Letter Carrier most efficient snow -removal Dear editor, I am writing in response to the front-page article in the paper January 8, 1986 regar- ding snow removal. With all due respect to councillors John Doherty and Glen Carey, r feel they did a great injustice to our Public Works Depart- ment, .. Goderich has, in my opinion, one of the most efficient snow -clearing operations in Southwestern Ontario. To confirm this Plows -are doing excellent job • . Dar editor, f►liere is John Doherty looking when he finds ninety per cent of the Goderich streets are not plowed? I have been a daily walker of the streets for the past 30 years and find that the roads and sidewalks are •well looked after. The plows are out early • and doing an excellent job. It must' be very discouraging for the bays ° to be so criticized especially, by someone who should know better. I believe John Doherty owes the staff en the plows a written apology. • Your truly, H.W. McCreath Keep snow on private property Dear editor, Complaints s have been received that 90 percent of the roads are not being plowed. May I sugget;that if council would direct their attention to private snow removal from private properties, and would stop the individuals from dumping their snow from private properties onto the highway after the town plow has gone by; they would eliminate some of their problems. Sincerely, N.J. Minaker • •• statement, one morning when .I was out checking on my own crew at 5 a.m. during a heavy snowfall, the public works crew was called in to start plowing. Before 7 a.m. every main street and several side streets. were clear of snow. Also, many sidewalks had also been cleared. This is done so effi- ciently that no-one who has to get to work by 8 a.m. has any trouble doing so. The statement that .was made about 90 percent of the streets not being nlnwed has GODERICH SIGNAL -STAR, WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 15, 1986—PAGE 5 January 15 to February 28 O ® ;N®w $ 3 5 00 $45 • ®Ndr • Remainder of Perms at Reg. Bourdeau Banning extra-blli will turn Ontarioin a communist state Dear Editor, ' Soon the Ontario Government intends to pass legislation called the Health Care Ac- cessibility Act. This Act will remove the • freedom of the medical profession to, set its own fees. More impoii Cantly it will remove many other freedoms from the medical pro- fession as well as otherr health care profes- -sionais such as pharmacists; dentists and • physiotherapists. ' IY,is difficult for us in our secure Western Society to imagine that our own government could start governing in the manner of a communist state. Now, .I have tried to say this asgently as possible betause rn y inten- tion in ot to shock. It is to present the truth. However; this might jar you from your' sleep. It is se easy to fall asleep when we are secure. No one can deny that the ideal of ac- cessibility of all health care to all citizens is good. Similarly no one can deny that Karl Marx's ideal of distributing the wealth in a society equally is good. However the On - ANNOUNCEMENT Robert G. The tool of Karl Marx and David Peterson is the same. It is total control with disregard for personal freedom and the depersonaliza- tion of people• robbing them of their. identity and making them an object of the state. Once they are made objects, people are much easier to manipulate and control. This is what the Liberal Ontario Government is doing to doctors today. The above is a risk for all governments who believe that people as opposed for the government to government existing for the purpose of its citizens. • In both situations complete' control is achieved . by. _. overpowering force and violence. In Poland it was ten thousand Rus- sian Tanks. In Ontario it is $10,000 fines. The purpose of both is to overwhelm and demoralize.
