The special meeting was held to discuss comments made by two councillors at a recent council meeting. In the opinion of the town's commissioner of works, Ken Hunter, "There is pot a town in the province of Ontario that is better served with snowplowing and removal thanis the Town of Goderich." Not one time has an employee refused to go nut and plow. If I was an employee of the town, I would feel very, very bad after the dedicated work these guys do," said Searls. Doherty, who attended the meeting, said he would not apologize because he had not criticized the town works employees. "All I did was ask Commisssioner of Works Ken Hunter if the plows were out on weekends, why they . didn't do all the streets. Searls answered that if Doherty had already asked Hunter about the situation before°council, there was no point in bring- ing the issue up at the council table. He ad- ded that the account of the councillors', comments in the Signal Star were 100 per cent factual in his opinion. Coun. John Stringer, who alsoattended the meeting, said the issue in question was not necessarily snow removal but the method councillors should use when repor- ting complaints from constituents. "Complaints from citizens can become veru sensitive because we're also talking about the negative performance of town employees. That's no one's fault; that's just the way it is," he said, The motion to congratulate the works employees about their work regarding snow removal was passed unanimously with a- recorded vote. Voting "Yea" were Coun. Stan Profit, Coun. Jim Searls, Mayor Palmer. and Coun. Peter McCauley. • It was also passed unanimously by council on .Monday Coun. Coun. Glen Carey was absent.
