' On Dec. 19, Goderich dropped a 3-1 deci- sion to Ilderton but rebounded with a 5-1 win over Strathroy in a game played here Dec. 2L In league play Dec. 28, Lucan defeated Goderich 6-2. In the game in Ilderton, the teams were tied 1-1 after one period and played through a scoreless second period but Ild on clin- chedthe win with two goals late it he third period. Andrew McLarty score a lone Goderich goal from Jason Cook. Things were different in the Strathroy game as Goderich built up a 2-0 lead after one period, increased the margin to 4.8 after two periods and coasted to a 5-1 win. McLarty led the Atoms offensively with two goals while Cook, Sam Hosack and Chris Dickson scored one goal, apiece. . Hosack also .set up two goals for a three- point night. Lucan scored three second period goals in the Dec. 28 game against Goderich and held on for a 6-2 victory. The home team scored the only goal of the first period but increas- ed its lead to 4-0 heading into the final period. Goderich got back in the game with two quick goals in the final period as Bill In- gham banked a McLarty pass- and then returned the favor by setting up McLarty, for the second Goderich goal. Lucan put the game away scoring just 10 seconds after the second Goderich goal' and they scored a sixth goal three minutes latera This Saturday Goderichwill host Lucan in an afternoon game. ,.Tile Goderich Atom As enjoyeda suc- cessful week of hockey defeating Clinton In exhibition play and tying St. Marys in Shamrock League action here Saturday. In the exhibition game against Clinton Dec. 30 in Clinton, Goderich fell behind 3-1 but rallied to score four straight goals and claim a 5-3 victory. Goderich jumped into a one -goal lead early in the, game as Todd Papple scored froth Andrew McLarty. Clinton took over from there scoring two goals in the first period to hold a 2-1 lead and they increased the lead to 3-1 with a goal in the opening minute of the second period. But Goderich took control of the game from there scoring three straight goals in the second period and an insurance ',marker ,in the final period to win 5-3. McLarty got things going as he scored the second Goderich goal and Todd Papple tied things at 3-3 one minute later. McLarty then scored the winner midway through the second period and Bill Ingham scored the final goal of the game from McLarty and Jason Jeffrey. The tables were turned in the league game against St. Marys Saturday as Goderich jumped intop a 3-0 lead and settl- ed for a 3-3 tie. Todd Papple's first period goal from Sam Hosack and Jeff Beange propelled Goderich into a 1-0 lead. The teams played through a 'scoreless second period and Goderich upped its lead in the first minute of the final period as Beange scored from Jason Cook and Papple. Goderich increas- ed .its lead to 3-0 as Bill Ingham scored ,after minutes of play with Cook. and Jef- frey assisting. ' But St: Marys battled back with three goals, the tying goal coming with just over a minute remaining in the game. Lions split games in league play The Goderich. Lions PeeWees won one and lost one before closing down for the holidays. In Ilderton, the unbeaten hometowners broke open a close.2-1,game in the third, fora 6-2 win. Tim Harrison led the Lion offence with a goal and assist. Brian Lane had a goal, while Jean Paul ,Cauchi had an assist. At home against Strathroy, the Lions 16. Little owl hosts annual Tournament Little Bowl held its annual Family Twosome Tournament Dec. 20 and 21 with 67 couples competing. Tara Million and.her father, Larry placed first in the peewee division with Audrey and Danny Brindley, second and Nickie and Gail. Wright, third. Each youth bowler received a trophy or plaque for their effort. In the bantam girls division, Julie and Dale Fisher finished first and were followed by Amy and Diane Sutton and ,Jackie Gilders and her grandmother, Kay. Larry also teamed up with son Ryan to win the bantam boys. division. ahead Derek and Kevin Rumig and Richard and Bob Desjardine. Brad and Gord Fisher topped the competi- tion in . the junior boys and girls division while Terry -Lyn and Shirley Schmidt were second and Allan and Audrey Brindley, third. In the first game Dec. 29, Goderich and Kitchener were tied 3-3 after the opening period but the Goderich Tweens put the ' game away with five unanswered goals in the second period. Angie Harrison and Trisha Rumig led the offence with.two goal apiece and they had one assist each. Jennifer Hamilton, Stacey Clarence, Jackie Crawford and Tara Haylow scored one goal apiece. Clarence added three assists along. with Hamilton. • - Goderich was eliminated from the tour- nament after a 7-1 loss to the Kitchener 1 team in the second round. ' In league play, Goderich hammered Mit- chell 25-3 Saturday. Angie Harrison led the scoring with five goals while Denise Johnston and Tara. Haylow scored four goals each. Alesha Glousher and Jennifer Hamilton scored three goals apiece for Goderich while Trish Rumig and Leslie Brereton scored two goals and Tara Cor- nish and Jackie Crawford, one each. The Tweens return to action Saturday with a game In Mitchell. The team is Undefeated in league play this season.' ° .Peewee B's edge Exeter 3-2 The Goderich Peewee Bs defeated Ex- eter 3-2 in league play Dec. 28 despite the fact the team was missing nine players, in- cluding both goalies. Doug MacDonald substituted as goalie and played an outstanding game. Jerry Hartin scored the winning goal at 12.57 of the' second period' with Kelly McDonald and Chris Erb assisting.
