Dear editor,
I am writitlg in response to Mr.- Mowatt's
article about broomball.
From the article, it is quite evident this
man has not got the slightest idea as to the
sport of broomball. It's a sport that has body
contact, sure, but not more than hockey. It
is a sport for adults and adolescents, not
children. As for the skills involved, there is
no end. I ask Mr. Mowatt, have you ever
tried hitting a ball while running down a
smooth sheet of ice? Try it; you may be sur-
prised at the difficulty involved:
Junior or intermediate )hockey has harder
hits and rougher games. I` moW°t7fih from
LETTLARS
past experience -4 years Jr. D hockey in
Wingham and 8 years Intermediate C
hockey in Wingham. I believe I have far
more 'experience than Mr. °Mowatt has
shown.
I have played broomball 10-15 years and
have yet to dislocate my shoulder or tear
knee ligaments as I have in hockey. Tell me
broomball is a hatchet game, go and watch
your local junior team play.
As to the rules in broomball, they are
practically identical to those of hockey. Yes,
there are cross-checking penalties, plus
strict rules concerning intent to injure
which Mr. Mowatt thinks is quite le al.
Mr. Mowatt, broomball is b coca ng mor
popular each year so you --shod g out and
watch a few games and learnabout- it. I
think Mr. Mowatt had an opinion of broom -
ball formed before he went to the arena. I
feel jrongly that Mr. Mowatt owes the sport
of broomball one gigantic apology.

Impressec1 with Huron Day Centre
Dear editor,
When I first arrived there, (Huron Day
Centre for the Homebound) I was pleasured
with what I saw. I was picked up by a driver
at 9 a.m. We picked up three more at
Goderich and arrived at Huronview at 10
a.m.
We were given the V.I.P. treatment. We
were seated at card tables and given coffee.
At about 10:15 a.m. some of the staff held
their meeting, after which one of the ladies
had us seated in circle. We were given
therapy wtuen was an excellent assortment
of exercises which lasted 20 or 30 minutes.
At about 10:30 a.m. the 'Boys' put us in a
wheelchair and off to the whirlpool for about
eight minutes of pure delight. At the same
time some of us played cards. At noon about
20 or 25 of us sat in on an excellent dinner.
We sat at the table and had coffee and relax-
ed until at 1 p.m. two cars drove us to the
bowling alley. We started bowling at 1:=15
p.m. and played till 2:45 then back to Huron -
view. Coffee was served and at 3 p.m. we
took off in the driver's cars and I arrived at
my home in Kingsbridge at 4,p.m. I had toad
a full day.
- My opinion of the Huron Day Centre is, if
you need therapy;'by all means give it a try.
The staff, the drivers and the volunteers are
class people. It amazed me .how kindly they
all were to the unfortunate people who come
there. And those people appreciate it and
love them for it. I Rest My Case.

Barney says children lied to at Christmas
Dear editor,
On page 30 of your issue of December 23
appears a series of letters under the heading
"The poor 'and lonely are the best
celebrators" apparently from children, one
of which states: "I am going to tell you why
the Jehovah Witness don't believe Jesus is
God's Son," over the signature "Donna
Bedard".
This is an excellent example of how
children are being lied to at this time of the
year, ( Holiday Greeting Supplement 1.
Another letter, over the signature of
"Holly-anne Smith", says: ':They
7'
(Jehovah's Witnesses) say "the church
picked a day which was a pagan feast day".
However, The Encyclopedia Americana,
1959 Edition,, Volume 6, page 622 gays:
"Most of the customs now associated with
Christmas were not rally Christmas
customs but rather v pre -Christian and
non-Christian customs taken up by the
Christian Church. Saturnalia, a Roman
Feast celebrated in mid-December, provid-
ed the model for many of the merry -making
customs of Christmas. From this celebra-
tion, for example, were derived the
elaborate feasting, the giving of gifts, and
the burning of candles." .
Baha'i community supports
new recreation complex
-Dear editor,
The Goderich Baha'i community, wishes
to voice its support of a propos ports and
recreational complex to ''be alt - in
Goderich. We feel such a facility, if properly
managed- and supervised would be
beneficial to the people of Goderich from
both a health and recreational stand. •
It could be a place for our youth to enjoy a
wide variety of activities, not now available
to them, and also could, provide quality ac-
tivities for tamilies to share in.
An establishment of this type is an invest-
ment in the future of our town, and with the
interest and imagination of. the people of
Goderich, it could become a focal point in
community life. 14 believe such a facility is
badly needed in Goderich, and give it our
whole hearted support.
Thank you.
The Goderich Baha'i Community
