all 'the children, gave each a large bag of
candy and treats.

The December meeting of the
Presbyterian Women's Missionary Society
was held at the homeof Mrs. Frances Clark.
The presided a the call to worship and
welcomed ail. Mrs. Frances Clark ledthe
Christmas program, assisted by Mrs.
Warner Andrews, Mrs. Gordon Dobie, Mrs.
Donald Cartwright and Mrs. Roy Daer.
Mrs. Tom Haggitt gave an interesting
reading on the origin of some of the
Christmas Carols sung teday. Mrs. Clark
gave an informative paper on the Christmas
Beatitudes.
After the offering was received and
dedicated with prayer, Mrs. Bradnock
thanked all who had assisted in the lunch
after the late Frank Raithby's funeral.
The minutes were approved as read by the
secretary, Mrs. Lillian Letherland and the
treasurer, Mrs. Frances Clark, gave the an-
nual financial statement.
It was announced that the annual meeting
for Stratford -Huron Presbyterial would be
held on January 8 at 10 a.m. in the First
Seaforth Presbyterian Church.
Plans were made for the coming year and
the same officers were asked to remain in
office. It was decided to have February,
May, September and November as special
offering months. The next meeting will be
held at the home of Mrs. Warner Andrews.
After reading more carols, the meeting
was closed with the benediction. A
Christmas lunch was served by Mrs. Clark.
Trustees Meet
The December meeting of the Village of
Auburn was held in the hall last Tuesday
evening with the chairman of the Trustee
Board, Warner Andrews in charge. The
minutes were approved as read by the
secretary, Mrs. Ross Dobie.
The agreement was signed for Edgar
Daer to do the snowblowing for the season.
Other bills were approved for payment.
A letter of resignation was received from
the village secretary, Mrs. Ross Dobie. Mrs.
Eleanor Bradnock thanked Gail for her
work during the last few years and the
.trustees accepted her resignation with
regret. The village requires a secretary and
if -interested, please apply in writing to Mrs.
Dobie by December 21. •
Trustee Jim Schneider presented Mrs.
Bradnock with a gift of a plant from the
village in recognition of her receiving a
Bicentennial medal for community work.
There was a motion tabled to sell the fire
hose as there have been several inquiries.
UCW Dinner
Over 40 people were in attendance for the
annual Knox United Church Women's
Christmas dinner held on December 12 at
noon. Several husbands and guests were
also present. The minister, Mr. Gary Shut-
tleworth, offered Grace and a sumptuous
dinner was enjoyed.

At the close of dinner, a lucky cup prize
was won by Mrs. Gordon Chamney. Mrs.
Peter Verbeek conducted a Christmas con-
test and the winner was Mrs. Oliver Ander-
son.
Mrs. Gordon Chamney played several
familiar Christmas songs on the piano for
everyone's pleasure. Mrs. Tom Jardin, with
Mrs. Marjorie McDougalI on the piano, led a
session of singing carols and she gave the
history of each carol.
The worship service was conducted by
Betty Marsh, Mrs. Oliver Anderson, Mrs.
Elliott Lapp, and Mrs. Glen Webster. Miss
Marsh gave a modern day version 'of the
Wise Men with the singing of carols
throughout the service.
A special offering was received for Ethio-
pian relief and this was received by Mrs.
Ruhr Koopmans and Mrs. Tina Empey.
The afternoon closed with the benediction
by Mr. Shuttleworth.
Anniversary
Potted Christmas flowers and a large
decorated 50th anniversary cake centering,
the head table were the decorations in the
Auburn Community Memorial Hall last Sun-
day afternoon for the Open House for Gerrit
and Corri Beimers on the occasion of their
golden wedding anniversary.
The guest book was in the charge of Glen-
na and Stacey Buffinga and over 250 signed
the register from Toronto, Strathroy, Blyth,
Brussels, Clinton, Goderich and the sur-
rounding community.
The bride and groom of 50 years wore at-
tractive corsages and Corri wore a beautiful
gold necklace which her mother had receiv-
ed on the occasion of her 50th wedding an-
niversary. When Corri left Holland to make
her home in Canada, she presented the
necklace to her and she proudly wore it last
Sunday.
The guests were welcomed by Mrs. Helen
Johnston. The waitresses, Grace Buffinga,
Margaret Buffinga, Janine Buffinga, Grace
Johnston,. Helen Johnston and Clara Fac-
chinato served fancy Dutch cookies and
cake.
Gifts and cards were received to mark the
. occasion. A plaque from the Ontario
Government (William Davis, premier of On-
tario and greetings were brought by Murray
Elston, MPP for Huron -Bruce. A plaque
from the Governor-General of Canada,
Jeanne Sauve and greetings from David
Peterson, leader of the Opposition, Murray
Cardiff, M.P.P. and John Aird, Lieutenant -
Governor of Ontario were also received.
Mrs. Marjorie McDougall and Mrs. Tom
Jardin presented Mr. and Mrs. Beimers
with a 50th anniversary wall plate trimmed
with gold on behalf of the neighbours.
Mr. and Mrs. Beimers enjoyed the day
when many friends and relatives came for
this occasion, all bringing good wishes and
many gifts.
Missionary Chapel
The Huron Chapel Missionary Church
held their annual Christmas program last
Friday evening with Mrs. Heather
McCowan as the program director.
• The program was opened with prayer by
pouglas Campbell, followed by the song,
Who is He?" by the members of the Sun-
day school,
The nurse class, with their teachers
Marilyn and Jim Campbell, sang two songs,
"Away in a Manger" `and "Jesus Loves
Me". The kindergarten class, with their
teachers pave and Debra Bodges, sang the
song, "Praise Him, Praise Him". The
primary class, with teacher Dianne Baan.
gave a recitation, "I Wonder", and sang the
hymn, "J -o -y, J -o -y". The junior class, with
teacher John McCowan, presented a recita-
tion and play, o `ChristmasIs".
A duet; "Redeeming Love", was sung by
Dianne Baan and Debra Rodges.
The Missionary Cadet Choir with their
director, Mrs. Pam Thiessen, sang "0 Come
all ye Faithful".
Eric Campbell played a piano solo, "0 Ho-
ly Night".
The Youth Group, with leader Jim Camp-
bell, presented a play, "The Stable".
The adult class presented "The First
Christmas" with Mrs. Debra Lawlor, Dave
Baan and Dave Thiessen playing the parts.
The adult choir sang the song, "In the Cave"
and the closing prayer was given by Pastor
Thiessen.
Knox Church
A large congregation attended the morn-
ing service last Sunday at Knox United
Church and Keith Hallam lit the third can-
dle representing "Peace".
Mr. Gary Shuttleworth was in charge of
the service and his message was entitled,
"Lord of the Lowly".
Both junior and senior choirs sang
Christmas anthems and a trio of junior
boys, Stuart Bakker, Ryan Middelkamp and
Kevin Webster, sang, "Along the Desert
Trail".
The organist, Mrs. Gordon Gross, was
assisted by Mrs. Barry Million and Anita
Gross and Leona Cunningham at the piano.
The ushers were Greg Park and Rodger
Cunningham.
"Aridy cane treats were given to the junior
congregation with leaders being Mrs. Glen
Webster and Tammy Shuttleworth.
Plans are being made to present a
Christmas Eve pageant on December 24 at 8
p.m. and the annual Sunday school concert
will be held on Saturday evening, December
22 at 8 p.m. Everyone is welcome at both
services.
Social News
A Merry Christmas and a Happy New
Year to all readers of the Auburn news.
Mr. and Mrs. Alan Moore of Stratford
visited on Monday with Mrs. Tom Johnston
and Miss Laura Phillips.
Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Wall of Wingham
called on friends in the village on Monday.
Winners at last week's euchre party were:
novelty- Ted Mills; high lady, Mrs. Edgar
Daer; low lady, Mrs. Ken Glousher; high
man, Orval McPhee; and low man, Donald
Haines. Due to holidays next week, garbage
collection will take place on Thursday,
December 27 instead- of Boxing Day,
December 26 in the village of Auburn.
At a recent concert at Rameloo Nursing
Home by the members of Knox United
Church junior choir, duets were sung by
Stuart Bakker, Kevin Webster and Susan
Dobie and Sherri Kryanowski and Nicole
Middelkamp and Karen Bakker. Sorry for
the omission of these names.
Holmesville UCW hold Christmas meet
The ladies of Holmesville U.C.W. held
their Christmas meeting Tues., Dec. 11.
Isobel Sturdy, leader of the group, opened
the meeting by reading an article,
"Christmas Is.". The hymn "0 Come All Ye
Faithful", was sung. •
Kaye Harris, Bessie Townshend, Doris
Batkin and Isobel Harris read articles per-
taining to Christmas.
Isobel Sturdy read a story written by Ed
Sullivan about his journey to the Holy Land
in 1959.
A poem was read by Bessie Townshend,
"Christmas If". "Hark the Herald Angels",
was sung, followed by a prayer from Doris
Batkin.
The offering was read and the Christmas
stockings were collected from the members.
