The Hair Connection, th three styling
shops already operating in other com-
munities, chose to locate ; •r fourth shop
in Goderich because mans: nt liked
the atmosphere of the town.
"We just liked the feel of the town. The
people are so friendly," says Penny Lavis,
a partner in the business and manager of
the Goderich shop.
Lavis, along with stylists Judy D son
and Gwen Ferguson, have been s 'rving
Goderich .customers since the Hair Con-
nection opened on August 13.
The Hair Connection grew from a
Hanover shop, founded 20 years ago by
Dale Heeney and called simply "Dales".
Lavis has been part of the operation for
four years and apprenticed with Heeney
before be :ming a partner.
Lavis says the response to the shop,
located in the Standard Trust building on
The Square, has been very good. If all goes
well, as many as six stylist could eventual-
ly be working in the shop, she says.
The Hair Connection does not cater to
any specific group of clients, but they do
try to keep up with the latest developments
in hair styling.
"We try to make it very city -like and
keep up on what's happening in the cities
and generate it back through our clientelle
to small towns," says Lavis.
"Small town people know where quality
is and appreciate it," she says, adding,
Knowledgable people are our best
clients."
When the Hair Connection was looking for a place to locate their fourth hair -styling shop,
nianagment chose Goderich because they liked "the feel of the town". Penny Lavis (left),
manager of the Goderich shop, says the Hair Connection has.been well received since open-
ing here in mid-August. Also pictured is stylist Judy Dennison. (photo by Patrick Raftis)

Rivett's TV & Radio increases space
Rivett's TV & Radio has completed the
first stage -of renovations that were started
this year in mid-August. Rivett's, a father -
son business with Elliot Rivett and his son
Michael each owning part, purchased a
neighboring building on The Square and,
by joining the two stores, have increased
their floor spade th5 times, to over 3,000
square feet
The store has been sectionalized and
now has separate departments for
microwave ovens, portable stereos and
televisions The main store area still
features h me stereo equipment and a
sound room. The new sections were of-
ficially opened November 1.
Elliot Rivett has been in business in
Goderich for 37 years, beginning m 1949,
when he purchased the Music Shop, on
West Street, from Roy Breckenridge. In
1954, the business was moved to its present
location and the purchase ofthe former
David E.. White clothing store and
subsequent expansion is an indication of
the Rivett's success.
Renovations to the street -side exterior of
the store will continue in the spring.
Gen's expanded
Recent customers at Gen's Singer Sew-
ing Centre will Have not ed a difference in
shopping conditions, dqk to expansions and
additions to the store, at 56 Court House
Square.
A new fabric department was created,
by replacing an existing wall with a parti-
tion, allowing entrance from the main
store area. Owner Gen Madden says the
change makes the store more "spacious"
and shopping "a little nicer for the
customers".
A bridal department has also been added
to the store and customers can now be
more comfortable when looking through
pattern books at a table especially set up
for that purpose.
Renovations at the store, which -also
sells craft supplies and other items, began
this summer and. were completed around
the beginning of November.
Dunlop's Guardian Drugs Pharmacy, on The Square, has pretty well doubled in size under
new owner Brian Nakamura, who took over the store June 2, from previous owner Jack
Meriam. Mr. Nakamura also owns Nakamura Pharmacy in Suncoast Mall. ( photo by
