Have a Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year
A teacher versus student volleyball game was played at GDCI last Wednesday to collect
donations for the Family and Children's Services Christmas Bureau. Admission to the game
was one can of food and the school collected 12 boxes of canned goods. Here, teacher Bob

Unit loses
BY DRB
- Last week's big winner in Industrial
League Curling, the Health Unit, soon)
found out that a big truck can run into dif-
ficulties,
ifficulties, just like the VW. Faced with the
keen shooting of Dave Cloet's Teacher
team, the Health Unit had the' "wheels
come off" in the fifth end, and lost their
first game by a 7-5 score. Even having
Jack MacKinnon re -activated from the in-
jured list didn't help as the Teacher team
were unforgiving, just like the ice, when/
you miss the broom!
The other GDCI Teacher team had
George "Knee -pad" Sutton back in action,
trying to recuperate from night school
classes. George, along with skip Doug
Bundy, Doreen Garrow and ,Myles Mur-
dock, had a see -saw battle with the Sifto
Maniacs, but finally came out on the winn-
ing end of a 9-8 score.
Charlie Crawford's, 1863 team had a
family feud going with his brother John's
Silver Broom gang, but had little sym-
pathy with them and gave them a sound 13-
5 trouncing. Charlie, Gerry Riley, Glen
Falkiner and Dan Durst played in the
Labatt Tankard playdowns this past
weekend. The results aren't in as yet.
In the other game at 9 p.m., Floyd Her-
man's team of Doug Veo and Roberta
Machan defeated Jeff Harrison's Super -
Shell team by a score of 7-4.
In the 7 p.m. draw, the closest game in-
vovlved the Hospital team of Jim Rourke,
Craig Cass, Ken EngeLstad and Leslie
Rourke pitted against Bernice Moore's
Lady Forester team. Jim held on to last
rock for the final end, that was tied 3-3.
However, he failed to capitalize and his
last rock fell short, allowing Bernice to
steal one and take the game 4-3.
The Foresters recovered from their big
loss of last week but were still hard-
pressed to defeat the Maitland Lady Sports.
5-4. Former GDCI Viking, Ann Duncan,
replaced her mother on the Lady team and
shot some good stones in the losing cause.
Another former GDCI curling star, Dan
Durst,' led the Viking team of Phil Main
Jr., Mark Jeffrey and student teacher
Chris "Mr. T.O." Howes to a resounding
12-3 blasting of the Sifto Salt 'evaporator
team.
Jim Bell's Garb and Gear foursome con-
tinued on its winning ways, after the first
game loss to the Foresters, and seemed to'
enjoy giving the V&G girls a short lesson
on the take-out gartd. Jim said he would
allow them to take additional classes, after
first presenting them with a 7-2 score.
